This reads just like all of the other articles, the GT500 is better in a straight line with the Camaro being better everywhere else. They all seem to prefer the ZL1 Camaro though I felt that Motor Trend came the closets to picking the GT500 over the ZL1 Camaro.

Oh and one guy stated that the ZL1 Camaro was way too good to be a "muscle car" and picked the GT500 because he expected a certain degree of crapyness from an American muscle car.

I am bored of the GT500 vs ZL1 already and want to the 1LE vs BOSS 302 Mustang....

I don't think anyone is trying to say that the ZL1 Camaro was a pure drivers car......

Well that's just like saying: neither of you ladies are good enough to win the Miss Universe contest so we won't crown anyone this year. Oh, but Miss India comes close.

But I'd like to know what they're comparing with when they say "driver's car". Do they mean, like the M3 that a base Mustang GT beat in Motortrend's comparo? Or the Mercedes AMG that doesn't come close to the ZL1's 'Ring time?

I have to agree

I think a "driver's car" would be ... something you see all over that doesn't turn heads or is never really modded, not really fast and makes you mad when they drive them 20mph less than the speed limit in a 25mph zone.

IMO the ZL1 isn't a drivers car, as I would define one. To me a drivers car is one that you have to get up on that wheel and work it. It's a car that's not refined with all the bells and whistles that make the driving easy.

At my age I don't want a "drivers" car, I want to be able to chillax while driving. I want to be able to crank the A/C and heated seats at the same time and just cruise.

I think what's generally considered a "drivers car" is something with precise steering that gives great feedback; balanced neutral handling with precise turn-in on corners where the car just goes where you point it without understeer or oversteer, yet either of those conditions can be induced with throttle control; great seat-of-the-pants feel as to what the car is doing while cornering; quick crisp throttle response and control; great brakes that give you exactly what you want in direct proportion to how hard you push the pedal; great easy-to-read instrumentation that gives you exactly the information you need with just a quick glance; a smooth, short-throw, solid-position-in-each-gear shifter for the transmission; superb gearing and ratios between the trans and diff so that you aren't over-geared or under-geared; just the right amount of exhaust note, volume and sound feedback from the mechanicals and tires (not too quiet); great seats that comfortably hold you in place but aren't too soft so you can still feel what the car's doing.

Those are just some of the things that come to mind. As you can see, not an easy list to check off for a car builder but if the Camaro team does the Z/28 right, it will be that champion drivers car driving enthusiasts have dreamed of.

Very god article. Seems like several other reviews I've read. Since the ZL1 has been getting the slight edge in most of the comparisons, it will be interesting to see the Ford response with their next model year. Will they finally drop the live rear axle?

Don't get me wrong, both cars are great, but neither company likes to "lose".

Clearly it is of most magazines opinion that "drivers car" doesn't necessarily mean the fastest car. The BRZ is a good example.

I doubt the current production ZL1 could come close to the pre-production ZL1's ring time either.

very subjective article no real concrete support on each vehicles performance. I could care less on what vehicle felt better, its all about performance numbers. At least the ZL1 driver will be comfortable when they are beat by m3's & GT500's.
