Bucs/Giants Kneel Down

Is there a gentleman's agreement not to rush hard during a kneel down? Coughlin seems to think so. He says "When a team waves a white flag...blah blah blah". Usually it's the LOSING team that waves the white flag. Is he saying his winning team is surrendering? The logic in Coughlin's argument escapes me.

And, kneel down plays aren't automatic. in a game that's a one-score difference, a turnover can happen.

cheap shot

The thing is....Bucs knew he was going to kneel. What else where they going to do, run a play and take the chance of losing the ball? I think it was a cheap shot. Bucs were frustrated that they blew the game.

+1

It's an immature cheap shot. For a sport, with guys getting paid millions of dollars to perform well, play the game, but more importantly be role models, this is absolute crap if you ask me. If I was the commissioner, wouldn't know if a fine would be in order, but I'd certainly consider it given the circumstances realizing that someone, because of this being a cheap shot, could have been hurt.

I know it's the normal way to do things. However, the NFL looked at this, and didn't and will not be penalizing anyone. And, if you read the article...a college team DID get a turnover because the snap was fumbled, and the one of the 3 people diving in recovereed.

Could that happen in the NFL? Sure.

I'm not saying I agree with what TB did, however I'm also saying that it's not anything inherently against the rules NOR bad to attempt a turnover in this situation.

I agree, it was a cheap shot. but i think you should have to play to the end and not be able to take a knee. Maybe a bad snap or something can change the outcome.

I agree with this:

"Yes, the miracle that happened in the differently-ruled/differently played college football could happen in the NFL. But the team taking the victory formation is not setting themselves up physically for being engaged like this. Bad injuries can happen that way."

i think the kneel down should be eliminated from the NFL.

Then maybe the offensive team running that formation SHOULD be prepared in case the defense does want to try to rush/disrupt.

It's kind of like those basketball highlights you see where one team scores with 3 seconds left and starts celebrating, meanwhile the other team finds a way to get the ball inbound and score.

It's not over until it's over. And you should always play that way...and not assume they won't rush.

I think it's a difference of sports. I'm not in tuned with basketball as much as some of you guys might be, but from the times when I do watch like playoffs for example, basketball games are typically always close. When you've got 5 seconds left, and it's a close game, you usually have an opportunity to win by scoring the last points...

In Football rather, it takes a helluva lot more effort in the last few seconds to get the ball back and score. Of course scoring doesn't happen as often as it does in Basketball. And it's not necessarily a matter of playing until the game is over, it's a matter of respect too.

Personally, I don't see why teams don't try this more often. If it's more than a one score game, sure, it would be a cheap shot, but in this case the game was not over if they did get a turn over. Crazier thigns have happened.

Wasn't there like 5 seconds left? They would have had to recover a fumble, throw a TD, and kick the extra point. Wasn't even possible.
