hit a tree

Last weekend I was in Maine for a wedding and let a friend of mine drive my car. He lost control at 30-35 mph and ended up hitting a tree. No serious injuries. I fractured my nose and got a few stitches but nothing major. My question is if the car will be totaled or repairable. The driver side tire is pushed out a few inches, the shock rubs the tire and the upper shock mount hits the hood. There airbags didnt deploy (not sure why, the dashboard did a number to my face). Im not completely sure how much damage there is. An estimator finally looked at it today after it sat in Maine all week while im back in CT. I wont hear from the insurance company until "sometime next week" but last time they said that it took 7 days. Just curious what anyone thinks

My guess is , no its not totaled. Also my guess on why the airbag did not go off if your face hit the dash you probably did not have your seat belt on which the car would know and not set the air bag.

This is why I don't let friends drive my car... Only dad or brothers and ADM.
Looks totaled. Glad you two are ok!

I wouldn't want to keep it, sorry if your insurance company decides to fix it. I would hate being stuck with it or trying to sell it after that went on. Try to get a real high estimate, don't settle for less than 100% new suspension components on that left side and also the sway bar maybe the steering rack, tires. You car needs to go to the body shop, and the service shop.

Airbags didn't go off because friend kinda just peeled the fender off your car. Another foot to the right and been much better.

I'd say no, isn't totaled. but it's hard to say. all the stuff that is bent up can easily be cut out and replaced. from there is a few panels, some suspension components and trim. won't be cheap, but you'd need upwards of 15k in damage to total it, more if you have state farm. and it doesn't look like quite that much.

had no seat belt on. car hit a tree on the side first, then one in the front pretty hard. bounced back about a foot. tow driver had a hard time pulling it out. after it was out, we drove it to the truck and he said it looked like it wasnt driving straight at all. not sure if anything more severe is bent or not

and that the thing, you can never know exactly how bad it is until you take it all apart. that's why most insurance companies total at 70% or so of replacement value.

You should have worn your seat belt.

Yes, your left strut tower is f@#*d up....bent in and upward.

The air bag turns on when a person sits in the seat that is over like 50lbs i think. theres a pressure sensor in the seat that turns the passenger air bag on. the seat belts have nothing to do with the air bags.

I had this issue in my 2011 when brand new with it being on or off at times with my wife in the passenger seat. She only weighs just over 100lbs. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't. When i took it in the shop told me it was 80lbs but, if her weight was not in the seat in just the right spots it might not register due to the seat foam being very stiff. After about 2 months the seats softened a small amount and the issue went away and now works every time. It is a combination of weight and where the weight resides on the seat to hit the sensors.

So sorry this happened to you. I am glad everyone is ok. I hope your car repair goes easy and quickly. It's scary to hear the airbag didn't deploy. My son is 9 years old and almost 10. He is 5' tall now, he doesn't weigh 100 pounds. He will be riding in the back seat for a long time.

I will check the airbag passenger airbag message more closely when my wife is sitting in it. I check it when I first got the car but never really looked at it again. I come close to getting hit or have a car pull out in front of me daily here. The tourists are coming back in October and it's about to get worse. It is a good idea to make sure the front airbag is working. Face planting in the dashboard could kill you.

Good luck with your car.

Sorry about your car, Question, If you hit the tree with the drivers side how did the bumper get hit on the passenger side? But the car looks like it can be fixed, Going to come down to what it will cost to fix it.

It was a couple days before the wedding, no alcohol involved on either part. There's a short, smooth gravel road near where the wedding was and we were going to check it out when he got into town. About 11pm. A deer ran from right to left across the road the same time he was shifting, my guess is he saw that and dumped the clutch too quickly causing the rear tires to break loose at the end of the corner. Sure didnt help that I needed some new tires (No it wasn't an attempt at drifting). That and almost as soon as it broke loose the rear tires hit the grass that was wet from the frost and as soon as that happened there was no control of the car and no more slowing down.

We hit two trees. One on the driver side hit at about the headlight and the second hit just inside the passenger headlight head on.

I'm not mad at him, just glad neither of us got seriously injured

Probably not totaled.
I know on some cars there are 3 airbage sensors along the front of the car, and you have to trip 2 at the same time for the airbags to deploy. If this Camaro is the same, maybe two of the sensors were not tripped at the same time?
