Used car pricing

I live in Kansas City and browse CarGurus every day for research. My wife and I made a deal that I will be able to buy my first Camaro in the spring. I want a 2SS because leather and the V8 are important to me.

I will be buying used. Right now the cheapest 2SS is 27,900, and prices for the 2010s are averaging around 29-30k., depending on mileage.

Do you think the dealerships will be offended if I offer 25-26k? I know it's impossible to calculate accurately because all the listings are different. I don't intend to spend more than 28k, and I'm guessing that this is a realistic expectation. I'd just rather start low.

I will be bringing my own financing, down payment and trade-in, but from what people tell me I'm not supposed to tell the salesperson this info. How do you go about avoiding that especially when they ask? I've already visited a dealer last month just to ask questions and that was the first sentence out of his mouth : "You have a trade in, right?"

Edit: here's the listings. I've sorted by used only, dealer only, v8 only (ignoring the trim section because I don't want to accidentally clip options)

I wouldnt even offer a price, negotiate and let them lower it, you will be surprised how often its lower than you thought it would be.

go to several dealershps and see what they offer, go with the best one.

Thanks, but I don't understand. How do you negotiate without offering a price?

I think he means that you shouldn't proactively say a price. You should let them give you a price and then negotiate.

Also, check the Sales forum on C5, I've seen some old post with cars that weren't too expensive.

I been checking sites like that and yes the 2010s are still going for big bucks.
I bet these dealers dont want these cars on the lot for a long time so go
To a few dealers and find a dealer that will make a deal

This, they will go lower to sell you the car than you probably think.

Also check the sponsors list, theres a dealer on here and from the posts she appears to get good deals for the members, Beverly form Rogers Chevy I think.
