Spare wheel and tires

Since there's no spare tire and the ZL1 has 2 different tire sizes I think I'll just need to order two spare wheels and tires and put them in the trunk for long road trips.

Has anyone ordered the stock black wheels from the factory?

Even with Road assistance I seriously doubt your local wrecker/tire shop will have 285/35 or 305/35-20"s in stock to get you back on the road.

A blowout would really suck if you're in the middle of King Ranch on a Sunday in the middle of the night. What's OnStar gonna do? Teleport you some tires ?!?!?

I would just get one that fits front and back , just like a normal spare tire on other cars with two tires sizes ( G35/37 ] and so on .

You might check to see if one will fit in the trunk. I doubt two will fit.

I doubt you could get one in.

They definitely won't fit in the trunk. Most people don't realize how big these tires are, until you see them off the car.

I have to admit I got a bit tickled at the idea of putting 2 full size tires and wheels in the trunk. Aint gonna happen.

I got my measuring tape out, each tire measures about ~12" width and 28" diameter. The trunk will hold 1 full spare tire, probably not 2. Can't know for sure without having the actual tires on hand to trial and error it.

However, if you remove the trunk floor and foam spacer you might be able to fit the 2 spare tires and wheels if you insert them in a V-shape in either side of the wheel well.

I think i'll just purchase a front and back tire w/out the wheel first and give that a try.

There's alot more space in the camaro trunk than people think and if you get a bit creative I bet you could make it work...

I'll post pictures if I can make it work. I'm gonna road trip the car to show my mom on Thanksgiving so I definitely want both spares with me. Even if it's just the tires w/o the wheels!

It may work, but I hope you don't plan on putting anything else in the trunk. A full sized suitcase won't fit, evenwithout the tires. It's more to do with the trunk opening than the space inside, but with two tires it definitely won't fit.

The 1LE runs 285 tires all the way around on staggered ZL1 wheels. I'm no tire/ wheel expert, but I don't see why you couldn't just get an additional front wheel and run it with a 285 tire. That should work in an emergency on both the front and the back.

I would be very curious as to whether a ZL1 tire and wheel will fit through the trunk opening. I dont think so but please let us know.

The tires are not the same size !

If you put a front sized tire in the back you will ruin your differential ! And good luck driving in a straight line ! Ha!

And if you put a back tire in the front it will not fit in the wheel well.

The wheels are the same size, but the tires are NOT!

Fronts: 285mm/35mm R20 (metric) is equivalent to 27.9"x11.2" (US)

Rears: 305mm/35mm R20 (metric) is equivalent to 28.4"x12" (US)

This means the back tires are a 1/2 inch taller !

The only solution is to carry 2 spares!

There is no one single tire mix that gives you 2 different heights off the ground, that's just impossible.

Just get a spare tire that is the same diameter as the rear but narrow enough to fit the fromt. Problem solved. It's a spare, no need to match.

Get you a set of F1 EMT's if you're that concerned about it.........or Roadside Assistance. There's plenty of alternatives available for you.
