OEM floor jack

Hey so I am about to purchase the Pedders street 1 package but don't feel like paying a shop 400-500 dollars to install. I plan on buying two or four jack stands, I haven't decided which ones to buy yet, and lifting my car. My question for the floor jack though is will the one that comes in the trunk with the spare tire work fine? I've never done this before so I'm open to any suggestions and recommendations for getting under my car.

Never mind, I am just going to buy a floor jack from Walmart and four 3-ton jack stands.

Be aware that once you lower the car with the Pedders kit, a standard floor jack will no longer fit under the rocker panels of the car. This will essentially make your new jack useless. If you're going to spend money on an el-cheapo jack from Walmart, I would recommend spending a little extra on a higher quality low-profile jack that can be used after the suspension install.

I have 3 jacks that I use regularly. 2 are aluminum light-weight low profile race jacks and another is a heavy (115 lb) standard profile ez-pump jack. The standard profile comes no where close to fitting under the SS (I use it mostly on my 4Runner or as additional bracing once the SS is already lifted by the low-pro jacks)

Oh no, I'm not lowering my car. Just adding bushings. But that is a good consideration.

Yeah, you can get these on sale (and use the 20% coupons) to pick them up for around $90-100 on occasion. They're not bad for the $$.

so the harbor freight ones work well w/ the stock SS? that's good because i think i can go pick it up locally -- i need to swap in my winter wheels and don't want to be scratching the car up -- do you all put anything more on top of the pad for protection or is that pad good enough?

Have you used the coupon on the jack? I was just looking at it last night, and also read the fine print on the coupon. 20% Off is great considering the price of other low profile floor jacks.

Also how much clearance do you have with your car? The ZL1 I measured at 3 1/2 inches.

You are correct...I misspoke....I used one of the Harbor Freight "super coupons" that are in the back of Car/Driver and Motortrend. They are Jack-specific coupons (actually showing the specific model on the coupon face). The Standard 20% off are not valid as stated.

You can get this one right now for $129 with the coupon in last months M/T: http://www.harborfreight.com/2-ton-l...ump-68051.html

Although, FYI...I bought it for $99 on Black Friday a couple of years ago (they might offer it again this year?)

With Pfadt lowering-coils installed, I have about 5" clearance on the side rocker panels and about 4.5" from the front (I have the Street-Scene front splitter installed). With only 3.5" of clearance on your ZL1, I doubt any of the HF jacks would work....that's pretty low. I'd recommend picking up a 36" length of 2x10 lumber, then cut it into two 18" lengths. Then drive the front/rear wheels up onto them (acting as mini-ramps)...that will give you extra clearance and permit the use of a wider variety of jacks
