The main reason that I read about was the power steering system. I only read about one failure that made it to a customer though. There was another one ,but I believe that was caused by a dealer repair gone bad.

Some 2012 ZL1s were found to have defective drivers.

Yeah, but that problem happened after the release. It wasn't enough to issue a recall though. LOL

The 2012's were held up for quite a while in some sort of 'Quality Hold' which is not uncommon for a new line of vehicles, just not all that common for the QC hold to last as long as it did.

As far as the $64,000 question, odds are we will never hear from GM what the extended hold was for.

All you will hear is sheer speculation from people. They're just guessing that it was the steering, it was the hood inserts, it was a programming issue, etc, etc.

GM is the only person that knows for sure, and they're not telling.

Having followed all the treads here (including dealer bulletins and constraints) on the 2012 build problems while waiting for my order to advance, and observing what happened concerrning the problems with the stock AND Exposed Carbon Fiber inserts, I am convinced the main problem was these hood inserts. Hence the move to discontinue the stock matt black hood, and change it to being painted Ashen Grey Metallic on the MY 2013.

I agree, the only way my order got accepted was to change the order to ECF the last week after the QC hold for the 2012 Dealer DOSP cycle which was revised due to parts availability which dictated the total build # for MY12. Then it went by Dealer sales etc for their final allocation. My Dealer only got one and the order didn't get picked up till we changed to ECF which was discounted $600.00 on the invoice.
