yeah, that's why mine is not on the car...

So far, I think it is really not needed, just would look better with it, but too low on my list right now.

see above the other option is to make a bracket to mount in front of the radiator.

For my setup with the ZL1 deflector it's needed to catch the water, for the metal one not really.

Seeing that the whipple fits under the stock hood no issues I would see if someone with a Maggie can post photos how far forward the elbow comes this should give you an idea I believe it will fit you are only cutting a hole above the elbow for the intake.

Looking good I still love mine and selling the fiberglass ZL1 hood and opting for the insert was the best idea so far. Next up for my car are the ZL1 side skirts (ordered and being painted from Rodgers Chevrolet), and then ordering the ZL1 rear diffuser and my exterior mods will be complete (unless I get a wild hair up my a$$ and but an OEM ZL1 hood and add the ACS ZL1 insert

Thanks, it's absolutely the best visual mod I have done. I have been asked several times if it came this way from the factory and if it was part of the Angrybird package

I wonder how hard it would be to sand down the back of the insert, to be flush with the hood. I know that little lip is used to help with getting the insert lined up, but I took a closer look at the factory zl1 insert on a zl1 this weekend, and it is flush.

You could do it...
It would need to be even all the way around (hard part).
But it wouldn't look right being flush imho.

I like it the way it is. I like the over hang on the back. I like it not being flush.

Have you seen it in person?

no, I have not seen the TL1 insert in person. If I were to get this, I would have a shop sand that part down, after getting the holes drilled/cut out.

So you like it hanging over? how do you think it would look if it were flush, better, worse, or not big enough to notice a difference?

I like it... I think it looks better to have the step up from the hood.

If your goal is to look the same as the ZL1 I'd get the OEM hood and the ACS ZL1 insert.

The OEM hood is not that much (it's the OEM insert that is a lot)

The step up isn't the issue, just the back sticking further back. Which isn't really an issue. Just think it would look better flush.

All you would need to do is sand off the step down portion in the back and then move the template the distance forward that it would have hung over the back of the hood,
Actually I like it hanging over the edge of the hood because it hides the back edge of the hood, it would look strange from the inside seeing that thin painted part of the hood then a different colored insert sticking up.

that's why I want to shave the rear of the insert, instead of the step down portion. this way it will be more flush (maybe not exact), but still have the step down. the step down will just be a lot thinner. I'd just have to see, if I get this. thanks for the comments! I really do like both of you guy's inserts!

I did like I think you are describing, I trimmed the step down at the rear to the thickness of the material that curves over the back of the hood, it still curves over but only about 1/8"
