Project Bernadette (Burn-A-Debt)

Hello all. My first post on Camaro 5, so I figured I would start with a car journal to document my project. Picked up a 2014 1SS 6 speed manual with the factory short throw shifter and npp exhaust in the beautiful Red Hot! If you can't tell from the title, her name is Bernadette. I love the car. I really wanted a 1LE, but my dealer didn't have any and the ones they were going to get had the RS package that I didn't really want. It doesn't really matter as I will be doing suspension work on it and it should handle pretty reasonably after that. My goal is to make a street killer that could handle pretty well on Auto X and maybe they occasional track day.

This is the day I picked her up at the dealer.

This is her after I plasti dipped the bowties and Camaro badges on the sides a few days later.

This is how she sits now. I was able to talk the dealer into at least buying me ZL1 replicas that would fit the tires that came with the car. They look a lot better that the factory silver wheels in my opinion, and are just to hold me off until I get some lightweight 20x10.5's with some nice tires on all fours.

Unfortunately I sold the bike that same time to compensate for some lack of funding from buying my first $35k car lol. I'll get another one eventually.

Can't blame me for getting a Roto-Fab cold air intake after selling the bike though.

That's it for now. Next step is LT headers with an SCT and dyno tune. That should hold me off for power while I start the suspension and stuff like that. I have to figure out what coil overs I want now that pedders and pfadt are no longer an option. If you have recommendations for those feel free to chime in. I've searched a lot but can't come up with a definitive answer.

Oh! Forgot to mention that this is my second Camaro. I had this one for a few years. 2001 v6 5spd. I loved the car, but it had a violent history behind it and failed mechanically, all over pretty much all at once...

Congratulations on the new ride. Thinking about trading my 2010 SS for a 2014-15 Red Hot 1LE next year.

Thank you! I have a lot planned. Gonna go easy at first, but the list of mods will add up quick I'm sure. Discovered my Elite catch can will be ready to install today after work. I'm looking for a daily driver with close to 500whp and most of all a killer suspension set up. I need advice on what coilovers to pick with pfadt and pedders gone.

Update! Elite Engineering catch can installed! I love the build quality of this. Very precise, and it looks great too. I'll probably get the clean side separator eventually, I just really wanted to get one of these asap.

That is a beautiful car. Congrats on the car and yes the name is very appropriate because it is indeed a money sucker but it is worth it. The Roto-Fab intake is indeed a good intake.

Nice man!! Isn't the NPP option a sweet sounding exhaust? I just sold my 13 VR 1LE and I miss the sound of the NPP!! Did u do the fuse pull? Do it...it sounds like a beast ALL the time! Anyway, congrats

Update!

Been a while since I've posted on this thread, but I've done some work to my girl.

Got busy and had to get some long tubes after reading about how much they open up and let that ls3 breathe. I went with Stainless Power 1 7/8" without cats, as I am budget minded to say the least. That setup paired with the NPP and fuse pull make for some nasty sounds! I got the SCT x4 with the JRE custom tune and that really woke her up. Not crazy power with it, but it feels as if it filled a void in some areas throughout the powerband. I got a skip shift eliminator as well because that garbage is annoying as hell.

That's it for now again. My job is hopefully going to take a nice turn pretty soon, which will equate for more money. I'm saving up for a house, but I think I'll be addressing the suspension slowly as well. Probably going for a poly bushing kit first. I want coilovers, and I'll probably end up with ridetech because the company has definitely proven themselves already. That would take a nice chunk of cash so it will be a while on that though. I want the car to handle like a beast and it definitely needs more low! I also want a square wheel setup. Looking for 10.5 all around, but that's far in the future. If anybody has any advice please chime in!!!

Thanks man! I love Red Hot! I want to stance my car out like a Z or 1LE. Low with wide meaty tires.

If you put the 1le front splitter and a set of ZL1 rockers on the car it makes look very low. It's better then trying to slam the car and loose suspension travel.

I have the GM front Splitter and it is 4.5" off the ground and I bottom it out everywhere. I need to raise it at least another 1/2" which may help.

Yeah I don't want to go too low. I want the 1LE splitter, but it's like $700!!! I was looking at the rockers as well. I either want to sell my 1LE replicas for some more legit ones like the ZR28's or just get some wide aftermarket wheels. We'll see, she's a work in progress .

I've seen the splitter for 580 somewhere and as for tyhe ZR28 they are really nice and they are on sale right now. Really worth the money.

ps on the rockers just buy the painted version from Gary and your done.
