New member needs a little help

Hi, I am on the verge of ordering a ZL1, I found a local dealer with an allocation, he will sell for MSRP. It will be infernal orange or crystal red tin coat with black wheels, micro suede, 6 speed, and sound system upgrade (for long highway trips).

i took a 25 year break from cars while trying to do the responsible thing with my family. Last week was my 25th anniversary, we had been saving up to take a trip, we never had a honeymoon, my wife surprised me by saying that it was time to get my car back. After I regain conscious, I agreed.

I was lucky enough to be able to test drive a 2012 that was just traded back to the dealer. My main question about the car: is the clutch engagement adjustable to release or engage at any point in the pedal travel. I rather get the information from another owner than the dealer. I also was wondering if anyone order the sound system upgrade. We are going to use the car to see the U.S. doing summer trips.

My previous cars included a 69 Camaro (396), 69 Firebird (400), 72 Chevelle (396) and a 78 TransAm (455) It's funny that back in the day I stuck a ton of money into my cars performance wise (not looks) and could never touch the horsepower of the stock ZL1. I thought I had it out of my system when my son bought his first car, a mustang, he asked if I could help him learn to drive a stick, we worked it out but he saw another side of me and told his mom who got the car idea.

Any help would be appreciated.

As far as I know no, the engagement/disengagement point is not adjustable.

As far as the sound system, how much of an "audio" guy are you? If you're really into music and top of the line sound systems then don't waste your money on the upgrade. Your money would be better well spent going aftermarket.

To be honest the sound upgrade is more for my wife, personally I like to listen to the car when driving around town, I know the car probably has a good sound system already, but if I do an upgrade I want to keep it stock. It's between the sound upgrade or sun roof, her choice.

I think the only upgrade is the subwoofer system. It adds 2 ten inch subwoofers and a 200 watt amp in a special enclosure.

Audio 1065.00 Audio,Audio System - Subwoofer - Not For Use on Covertibles,Take your Camaro's technology to a higher level with an upgraded Audio System-Subwoofer. This system adds two 10-inch subs and a matched 200 watt amplifier to your Camaro in a custom, sealed enclosure. The system is tuned to enhance the factory GM sound system, adding low, clean sounding bass for true quality music reproduction. It's like putting surround sound in your Camaro.

Ok I thought this was standard for the ZL1

I'm sure a lot of Audio guys would tell you that 200 watt is pretty weak for a subwoofer system. Should be closer to 1000 for some real kick ass sound. Ha, just like Horsepower

Thanks for the help, I think I'll pass on the sound and try to talk up the sun roof. Does anyone have anything they would add or remove if they could do their car over.

Bingo!

I would get the sunroof since you can always get the sound system later but can't get the sunroof later. IMO

Your better off on the aftermarket for the sound system. Sub thump has some great options.

I didn't like the suroof option but if you like it add it now.

I think the exposed carbon option is worth adding.

I have the suede package and I like it but it is stupid to order because you can buy the parts from gm way cheaper than the option.

If you want the nav add it right up front because it is not easy to add after the fact.

Yea I'm not crazy about the sunroof, is the suede upgrade basically the steering wheel wrap and shifter knob, I thought it had something to do with the seats.

The seats have suede inserts but are not an option to add or remove. As far as the suede package I wonder how the suede shifter knob and steering wheel will look about 4 years from now.

Honestly, you'll get better sound out of an aftermarket system. Check out www.subthump.com. I've had the stealth box in a couple of my Camaros and it was much better than the giant gm sub box. You lose a lot of trunk space with the gm one.

This is the newer version of what I had.
