F1 Supercar G2s vs Pilot Sport PS2 vs Pilot Super Sport

I am not the most auto savvy guy in the world. I want to try a new tire when the time comes (very soon from the look of my tires). I'm wondering if any guys here have tried the other two tires I have listed or if they would even fit? I have searched for those tires in the appropriate sizes and they do exist, but for some reason when I search sites for tires that fit (like Tire Rack) the only ones that show are the O.E. and Pirellis. Any info or advice?

It may have to do with the speed rating.

the G2's are a runflat design and the other are not so they will not show up as a direct replacement.

the supersports are the repalcement to the PS2 and supposed to be better and would be what I would personally try if I did not just buy the cheaper G2's next time around.

you will have to run a 315 in the supersport but you can still get a 305 PS2.

I switched away from runflats on my vetts and liked the results as far as ride, noise, strait line grip. I have always been impressed with the Grip on the good years in the corners though. everything on paper says the supersport are a better tire minus the runflat capablity. The supersports right now are a bit more money though.

How does it work with running 315s instead of 305s? Again, I'm not auto pro so what difference would there be? I really like the look of those supersports but I want to make sure I getting a better tire because my G2s didn't impress in wet weather.

well basically you have to look at the width of each tire. so it is 12.6 on the 315 vs 12.3 on the stock 305. I don't think that would cause any issues rubbing.

they will also be 28.7 in diameter as opposed to 28.4. so you speedo will be .6mph to slow at 60mph.

Any updates on new tires? I'd really like to know what tire choices exist. It doesn't have to be limited to the choices listed in this topic. I'm rapidly approaching the end of my current tire life and I would be interested in hearing from some daily drivers, strip guys, and road course pros as well. Also, I live in MS so winter tires aren't of any concern to me.

there are tons of other tires that will physcially fit the car though. tire rack is only going to list exact replacements.

I had 335/30-19 NT05's on my Z06. stock was 325/30-19 there were zero issue with fitment.

I saw someone post in a pic with different brand 315's but not the supersports.

I've had 295's and 315 Michilen Super Sports on since day one and love them. They definitly make the car look tougher.

@actireman - do you have any pics? also, how is the handling on these tires? I am looking for a tire that hooks really well in a straight line (w/o resorting to a drag radial)

No pics, I don't know of anything that will hook on the street. I smoked everybody on the road course on open track day. The tires were awesome.

Take a look at Tire Rack's comprehensive test results here:

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/survey...ay.jsp?type=MP

Which aspects are important to you?

Michelin Super Sport wins, overall, and Ponteza S04 (as tested) aren't available in ZL1 sizes. The rest are some distance behind.

In my personal experience, Michelin is the best. I had PS1's and PS2's on a couple M3's I had. They were awesome tires. The goodyears I had on a cobra mustang and the ones I have now on ZL1 wheels are LOUD. I am getting PSS's when I get new tires.

Those tire rack ratings are based on the average joes thoughts. Id rather go by a professional test for choosing tires. I suppose ot gives a general sense of what to expect but you dont even know what these people are comparing there scores against. I mean if i came from a toyota camry with whisper quirpet tires to a perforamce tire it doesnt matter what brand it is i am scoring it as loud and vs versa. It also depnds on what you want out of a tire if you track your car or not will make a big difference in what you want.

Every corvette test ive read put the PS2s ahead of the goodyears but i see the new SUper Sport tires top them both.

True but they also rank the tests themselves and still put the Super Sport Tires above the PS2's and the fact that the tire itself is newer is why you have not seen them on many Corvettes yet.

Michelin Pilot Super Sport Tests - Overall TR Score: 7.68
  • What We Liked: Impressive ultimate handling blended with reasonable road manners
  • What We'd Improve: A small improvement in ride comfort over the bigger impacts
  • Conclusion: An impressive tire that continues as the performance benchmark for the category
  • Latest Test Rank: 1st
  • Previous Test Rank: 1st (June '11)

Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 Tests - Overall TR Score: 7.39
  • What We Liked: Crisp handling on the road and around the track
  • What We'd Improve: Ride comfort and wet traction
  • Conclusion: A benchmark that is starting to show its age
  • Latest Test Rank: 3rd
  • Previous Test Rank: 1st (June '09), 2nd (October '07), 2nd (August '07), 1st (June '04)

Pirelli P Zero Tests - Overall TR Score: 7.42
  • What We Liked: Composed road manners and handling
  • What We'd Improve: Reduce tread noise somewhat
  • Conclusion: An older but still capable tire that can't quite match the capability of newer tires
  • Latest Test Rank: 4th
  • Previous Test Rank: 4th (June '09), 1st (August '07)

Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar G2 has no TR tests as of today

Got a set of Michelin Pilot Super Sports 275 fronts and 315 backs and I AM IN LOVE!!!! More wet/dry traction than the Goodyears. I couldn't really tell the difference in road noise becuase my car sat the dealership for 2 weeks. But MAN OH MAN I love the PSS. They handle like a dream and I haven't missed a hookup yet! Definitely worth EVERY PENNY!

Why did you go with that staggered size? Why not the 295 fronts with 315 rears?

I didn't want to stray too far from the original sizes. I misspoke in my earlier post. I went with the 285 fronts and 315 rears only because the PSS don't come in 305.

How do they look compared to the Goodyears? Do the rears bulge out on the rims?

315s will be just right for an 11" rim. When I had my '98 Camaro SS, I had 275's on my 9" front rims and 315s on my 11" rim. It gave enough bulge to look great and protect the lip of the rim. I had the Corvette replica's from Factory Reproductions.

I put the michelins on also. 295s in front and 315s in the back. Really like them. Car has a lot less rolling resistance now. Will post pics soon. They also have a 15,000 mile warranty.
