Grand Theft Attempt

Well. My secure parking garage at work turns out to be not so secure. Car 36 ( with only 1407 miles on it) was the target of grand theft auto last Friday. Yes that's right. I came back to the garage and someone had taken a slim Jim/ jimmy to the drivers door, creasing the rubber and bending it down into the door.
There was no permanent damage to the car only to my psyche.
The security is reviewing the tapes to see if I can id the "bad guy".
This is nuts. I am already semi paranoid about leaving it anywhere so now this.
Of course the police are not impressed since the would be theif didn't actually take the car but did tell me since it is the only one in my city that I shouldn't be surprised as the parts value is more than the cars value.
Oh great. Just great.
I talked to a local shop today about a extra kill switch and they didn't recommend it.

So what's a girl to do.

are you sure it was an attempt?

the rubber on the doors of my 2012 were just replaced yesterday, they seemed to get stuck in the "down" position when the window went down and would not come back when the window went up.

it looked like someone slim jimmied the car, but it in fact was the rubber, dealer even told me he has replaced it on quite a few cars, the new set of rubber is much stiffer than the originals and they do not seem to go "down" when I use the windows and they pop back up if I attempt to push down with my finger.

The old ones if I pushed down, they would stay down.

I also see this on my car. I was freaked out when I first saw it thinking it was a break in attempt.

However, like Mr iNCREDIBLE said, I think the rubber is cheap and is creasing pretty easy.

My car had this same issue.

have your dealer replace them, the new ones are a lot stiffer rubber, not as soft and weak as the original ones.

3 days now and I haven't seen the issue return, but I will be keeping an eye on it.

So what's a girl to do.
Now this just infuriates me to no end. How about they do their job and find the would-be thief. You should expect your personal property to be stolen because it's rare and/or unique. SO in other words, it's your fault for owning a nice vehicle. Well done local 5 0! Bet they are all over you if you go through a yellow light, but when actual crimes are attempted, they shrug their shoulders. Nice.

Get yourself the GPS Snitch. Kinda like LoJack, but better, from what I hear.

Come to Saudi Arabia.................thats exactly what we do. Legally.
Someone caught stealing, find them. Chop off the hands.
Someone kills someone, Find them. Chop off the head.

And that way I know I can leave my SRT8 unlocked, windows down, my mobile in it over-night and no one will dare come near it xD

I have the same issue with my car. Looks like someone tried to break in. I kept thinking that for the longest time that someone was trying to steal it. Till it kept getting worse.

I only hope it is a rubber issue. The windows have only been down a dozen times so after reading this I went and sat in the garage at home and played with the windows rolling them up and down like a kid in a camaro store and I couldn't recreate it. I talked to the building today and.....the tapes weren't recording last friday so they couldnt see what happened.
I'm going to play with the windows all weekend, kind of like jumping up and down on a mattress, and I'll let y'all know if I can recreate the crease.
BTW thank everyone on here for the comments. Glad to know y'all understand. My friends think I'm a freak about this car.

if that is what you are seeing, I suspect you have the same issue, and not a break in..

here's hoping..

Thank you mr incredible. It seems this is a common thing and I am feeling both stupid and hopeful. Stupid if its a car defect and I'm really a paranoid freak but hopeful that's the problem so I can drive the car ..... I'm going to park it outside of the garage in the morning til it heats up and then play with the windows again......
