V6 top speed runs

Hello all, I have sort of a dilemma, Ive been trying to do some top speed runs in my 2012 Ls m6, i have a cat back Solo Exhaust, and K&N drop-in filter. I also took out the spare tire in the trunk to save some weight. However i cant seem to get past 120-125 , so idk if im doing something wrong? Do i need a tune or something? Any suggestions are appreciated Thanks

Thought LS's with steel wheels are limited to 118mph unless you have a tune

Nothing to do with the wheels, LS are set to 118 top speed, LT to 125+... You need a tune to over past that speed...

As mentioned, your car must be speed limited (electronically speed limited). You'll need a tune to delete the speed limiter.

But I thought all the cars that come with 20" wheels were limited to 158 mph.

If your looking at getting a tune go with trifecta. Just do a search on the forum there is a ton of info about it.

What RPM are you at when you're in 6th? You may want to try to downshift and see if you're just not shifting too early. I have an A6 1LT (limited to 118) and I sit around 4000 RPM as I hit 118.

This is so simple. MDiaz's car is an LS. All LS models were ORIGINALLY equipped with the 18" steel wheels with the T-rated tires, and limited to 118 mph. If the owner at some point optioned up or added wheels after-market, the limiter is set at 118. The slight difference in circumference of his wheel/tire combination that's presently on the car is showing up as an erroneous reading on the speedometer.

The car will not go faster in any gear, at any RPM. But it could. It has to be tuned out, as most of the other posters mentioned.

You also have to make sure you have tires rated for that higher speed. What's the letter speed designation on your tire sidewall, MD?

Johnnyb is spot on. The V6s with Z rated tires are governed at 155.

Ok so i have correct info, backed up by my GoPro. The V6 with the standard RS package 20" pirelli's the speed limiter is set at 155 at 155 in 5th gear i was tacking 6100 rpm at 155 the next thing you see is speed limited to 155 i saw 159 on my dyno.On the standard camaro 18' non staggered rims the limiter is set at 118,but of course i couldnt prove that but that is what my info is. The pirelli's are "Y" rated and that is 186+ pretty impressive that they come stock with such a high speed rated tire.

If there are any of you V6'rs that are intested in high performance parts im pretty sure i will have some good stuff to sell,as mine is for sale.My 1LE was made today and my car will be for sale here through this weekend http://www.cncexotics.com/view-inventory.aspx its like the 17th car on the page. I will be taking off my Volant cold air,Airad throttle body spacer,RX catch can OEM painted engine cover Baer cross drilled/slotted rotors and selling them so i dont just give them to the dealer.I would take off my JBA ceramic coated headers but it would cost more to take them off and put the original exhaust back on.
