COPO Convertible #68 will stay with GM in their museum. This car, #69, will be auctioned off at Barrett-Jackson soon.

Because GM knows that some rich-@$$ collector (more than likely Rick Hendrick) will pay an incredibly stupid amount of money to have it in their garage!!! Hey, if I had the money....I'd do it too!!!

What the heck is the point of a convertible copo...so pointless and stupid. What a waste of money. Copos are awesome, but I would never get a convertible one...and if GM gave me one as a present, I would turn around and sell it for a real race car (ie COPO with a roof!).

+1 Makes no sense to get a convertible I mean shoot if you want your hair to blow in the wind and 150 mph + in the quarter mile roll down the damn window it looks WAY BETTER than a convertible with a full roll cage...

It may not make sense to some, but it's still a sweet ride! Why not make it when you have all the components sitting there, and know someone will go crazy to get their hands on it. Personnaly, I would have built 69 coupes, then produce the 2 one-offs as icing on the cake.
I still find it comical that they change virtually everything on the car to produce a COPO, then leave the radio, HVAC, and cruise control buttons on the dash and steering wheel! I guess they're sommething for the wife to fiddle with from the passenger seat for 8 seconds (if she can lean forward during that time to reach them...)!

because no matter how you slice it, the COPO is a race car and each and every one should hit the track IMO. and with a vert you either reduce the rigidity of the frame or you add weight with parts to make up for the loss in rigidity. Wonder if this car would flex like a rubber band on the strip or if it is 1/10 slower?

I get it someone with money will buy this for the bragging rights. it will never hit the track and will have 100 miles on it in 50 years... but one thing you have to remember is that the original COPOs were not meant to be a collector item they were meant to shift the tide in the pony wars... i guess the times have changed

They had to leave certain things to fit in the class that they are racing in.
