ZL1's And Snow...

Hey all, just wondering...
How many people would be mad to know that their ZL1 was driven on salted roads in the winter, and stored outdoors with 2 inches of snow on the for a month? I live in Oshawa, and when they first came out, my dad and I went down to see them, and they were covered in snow, and 2 drove by into the lot on Stevenson rd which was a salted road. I have pictures, will add to post tomorrow, have to get to my home computer soon!

Anybody who does care needs to be kicked in the junk for being way uptight.

I'm sure they will survive.

My SS left Oshawa in December 2yrs ago. It was driven even further in snow and salt to get the stripes put on. The underneath is spotless still to this day

They will be fine.

I drive my SS all winter . The worst thing winter has done to my car is I have to switch back to stock wheels with winter tires. Anyone worried about 2 inches of snow must not realize we're driving camaros, not Bentley's.

It's quite obvious...you saw those ZL1's in the snow and then a hurricane destroyed the NE coast of the US. Also Canada had an earthquake...So...obviously...if a zl1 touches snow the earth blows up.

My SS is my daily driver and its just fine to drive it all year. I did get some different rubber though. My PZeros just didn't cut it in mid-west winters.

COPOS are not built in Oshawa. Those come out of GM performance Wixom plant near Detroit hand built.

quickly researched...
"The new COPO Camaros will be built using factory “body-in-white” body structures produced at the Oshawa, Ontario plant that manufactures regular-production Camaros. They are the same body-in-white body shells available to all racers under Chevrolet Performance part number 19243374."

http://media.gm.ca/media/us/en/gm/ne...0308_copo.html

and one more question, are the ZL-1 corvettes made in milford michigan, or detroit?

The body shell is made in Oshawa then sent to Wixom to be assembled and fabricated into a COPO.

Corvettes are made in bowling green Kentucky. I am assuming ZR1's are as well.

Got these on my car, they handle the job just fine, that being said winters in Arkansas aren't exactly hardcore.

I think those ZL1's are nearly worthless at this point considering the harsh conditions they have been exposed to. I will be generous and buy one of them for half off just to be fair. No need to thank me, I can manage living with the rough history.

And you don't have nearly as much power to handle to the back wheels

man I hope they did not have have snow there june and july. if so remind me not to go.

I would never drive my ZL1 in the snow witht he current tires by choice. you might as well put a streeing wheel on a sled. I just don't have to drive it in the snow so I don't. I have other vehicles that go way better in those conditions. If I only had two card then I would get a winter set of tires and drive it in the snow.

as long as you stay out of boost you are not making more power than an SS really.

Somebody's trying to poke the Lion.....

Snow is water...water doesn't hurt. Especially considering that the ZL1 went through the same climate tests as every other Chevy on the road...

Salt is bad...but a short drive over one road won't insta-rust anything...especially when everything on the underbelly is either a) coated, b) aluminum, c) plastic, or d) covered by the belly pan. As bad as that crap is...I've got a 5 year old Cobalt that's still showing minimal signs of rust and they put more salt down than asphalt in some places...

Plus! They got a nice wash up down, inside out and sideways when taken into the loving care of their owners.

Anyways...that's how this ZL1 owner feels...#214 was held in Oshawa for about 3 weeks during the QC period...got hit with the white stuff a couple of times in Feburary/March.

Given the price of a new ZL1 I cant believe you'd say that?!!!

Salt is very corrosive dude;so how would you like the aluminum and metal to show signs of corrosion in 2 to 3 years on a 57 to 59K investment?

I'll let them drive your car in the snow on a salted road, but my 3000GT shows corrosion from having driven it in New york and Wisconsin in the winters on a salted road. Just my 0.02, but your reply seems like you never took any chemistry in college; I had more than a few especially in inorganic and corrosion science. Go throw a piece of bright polished aluminum bar stock in a glas of salt water and admire the changes, Duh.
