Camaro vs. GMC 1500?

So a friend of mine. Well, more like an acquaintance these days, is picking up a 2011 GMC 1500. It's a crew cab 2WD w/ 20's and the 6.2L/6 speed auto combo. First thing he did was call my best friend (they work in the same shop) and tell him he was ordering some exhaust and making an appointment for a tune because he has a V6 Camaro to pick on The fellow has a bit of a chip on his shoulder against me (long story) so my best friend knew he was referring to me and my 1LT.

For curiosity sake, who do you think would take the cake?

2011 GMC 1500 Crew 2WD 6.2/6 Speed Auto (+exhaust and tune)

or

2012 Chevrolet Camaro 1LT 3.6/6 Speed Auto (stock)

I personally do not care as I don't have anything to prove to the guy with my daily driver. I have a 5.3L powered beater pickup that I have no problem spraying or whatever to put him in his place. Just wanted to see what you guys thought. I haven't driven any of the 6.2 pickups.

seriously? A Nearly 6,000 pound rolling brick vs. a 3500 pound aerodynamic sports car..


why even ask?

the truck is made for torque, and it has a lot of low end and are designed that way, they have no top end power, and their transmission shifting programming sux balls.

sorry truck guys, but I've had several GM trucks, including most recently a 2010, and they are trucks, period, they have power where it is needed, for hauling and towing, not for racing..


it amazes me that people will race/compare pineapples to grapefruits just to have bragging rights.

which do you think will win? a brick or a skipping stone?

Well...there was a 2011 2500 running 13.2s at my track. Gave me a run for my money...BUT I doubt your guy has put an extra 30 grand in his truck like this guy...he's going to run 15.5s.

I can't stand ignorant people who think they can beat a Camaro just because they got a new vehicle!

I had a new GMC 3500 want to race me, but I had my 2 1/2 yr old in the back. He took off from the light and thought he blew me away. WHAT A MORON!!

If I was alone, he woulda seen my tail lights getting smaller and smaller!

My truck is faster than my SS but it took 14-15k to get it that way. He is a moron. Diesel power rulz.

2wd GMC CC 1500 weighs around 5100# and has 403 hp and 417 tq. It runs 14.5's stock in the quarter. I am giving the win to the truck in this case. The tuned ones are running 13's on the sierra boards.

and the truck is 4500 - 5600 depending on model (standard, extended, or crew cab)

If he gets full bolt ons(H/C/I/E), 4.10's, good tune, shift kit, built trans, locker, stall converter.... Then he will be running 12's all day long.

I know one(5.3) that has all that and ran 150 shot and did 12.2..... He has the 4L60e, which is slower on the top end then the 6-speed in the newer 6.2's.

With exhaust mods and tune he should be running solid 14's with the 6.2(stock crew cab 6.2 did 15.1 last friday with 2700+ DA).

What does ''exhaust'' mean? Is it a simple catback or headers/high flow cats/catback? If he's getting headers, he will beat you (especially with the tune). It will be a close race if it's just a catback/tune.

+1..... Don't underestimate the 6.2. The ECU/Exhaust systems from the factory are highly restrictive, and freeing them up really wakes it up! The tune should help solve the lazy factory shift points too..... You would be surprised!

Maybe the 4.8, hell even a stock RC 5.3 from 10 years was a solid mid-high 15's truck. The new one isn't substantially heavier and has 150 more hp and 2 more gears.

it also has the max towing package with the 3:73's instead of 3:42's, and 17" rims instead of 20's.

these things are under tuned huge from factory. they even shift before peak hp.

I had a 07 crew can with 6.0 cam and tune and I could beat rt chargers. So it can be done in those trucks
