A retrofit is much cheaper. The housings come just as they would on a factory car with the halo. I don't even see how that could be a thought.

Sorry....bad day.

To the best of my knowledge, GM doesn't make a spare headlamp assy for the camaro that is HID only minus the halo ring.

If you order a spare headlamp assy that is from the RS appearance package, you will get an HID headlamp with an LED halo ring. Now whether or not that includes ballasts, hardware, or any wiring harnesses, I couldn't tell you.

No worries, MonsterTodd. We are all human and bad days come with the package! I could tell by the overall tone you were sincerely helping and I totally appreciate it!

Since I messed up and now have order envy, if you were in my shoes would you opt for the GM assembly (assume the ballasts are in there) for $1,280 (yikes) or use an alternative aftermarket option (if so, which one)?

I can understand the apprehension, the OEM units are pricey. Me personally, when retrofitting things like headlamps, I would want to stay with OEM parts. I'm not sure who it is, but I remember seeing a vendor on here in the vendor section who was advertising halo lights for sale that he/she would take apart and basically "rebuild" them into RS headlights.

The replacements only work on the model for which they are designated. In other words, you can't install a HID replacement in a car with halogen lights.

So, as others have already stated, you need a conversion kit. I haven't priced them in awhile, so prices may have changed, but I don't recall them being much if any cheaper than the GM price for the RS package.

this is the retrofit kit i'm planning on using roughly $270... http://www.theretrofitsource.com/pro...roducts_id=227
i've read nothing but great things about TRS, and i'm willing to put a little work and time into this...

will be adding colorshift halos as well...when all's said and done, i think the conversion will still cost me less than one of the OEM RS headlamps

Hey, OzzySS.

Check this out too. I haven't made a final decision but I'm consider this in addition to the TRS.

Oracle www.oraclelights.com

(a) Bi-Xenon Headlight Projector Kit - TYPE B
see small attachment of the two.

(b) 5th Gen Camaro Oracle Lighting Package
see bigger attachment of the two.

Thanks. TramTwo put me in touch with 2SSRS who wires a ton of options. He suggested going OEM if at all possible. That's what I'm exploring too. Seems like I'd better dig deeper in these forums too.

Good advice to yourself. This forum is a great place for advice and discovering who makes the best, most reliable products.
Good luck with your MODs.

Yeah I'd shy away from AAC products. While they do stand by their warranty, as well as have fantastic customer service, their products are notorious for failing prematurely. I don't want to knock them too hard, because they really do stand by their products. However if you want something that doesn't fail out of the box, or 3 months into normal use, don't go with AAC. I've personally purchased three different AAC products and I've had to return all three for warranty.

Hmm good to know. I read a couple similar things, that's why I wasn't going with them for the important thing (the actual hid retrofit), altho if the halos fail...well, now that I think about that would probably be a real pain to warranty replace lol. Maybe I'll keep looking for more halo options. The retrofit source does have a halo option now on the morimoto kit, but I have no idea how they look

All my AAC parts work as advertised. A no brainier for me as they are headquartered right down the street. As is the case with most popular venders on this site opinions can run to extremes sometimes. Measure twice cut once.

But all their HID and halo stuff is a knock off of TRS stuff. So your better off getting it right from TRS. Their projectors are knockoff moritomos. Their LED halos are the same way. Why deal with a company that blatantly lies to its customers saying those products are theirs. I've personally dealt with AAC and hope never to have to deal with those people again. Walmart employees are easier to deal with.

OEM Solution for HIDs in non RS SS - maybe

I wrote the following to GMPartsDirect.com. Anyone ever worked with them?

---
Scott,

Is the 2012 Camaro Headlamp assembly w/HID compatible with the 2013 Camaro? Also, where do I find the actual part numbers?

I'm interested in the following for both left and right:

1. Headlamp assembly with HID (L/R) $603.51 x 2
2. Harness with HID (L/R) $165.48 x 2
3. Headlamp assembly, bolt with HID (L/R) $2.12 x 2
4. Headlamp assembly, nut with HID (L/R) $2.31 x 2

Thanks,
CRT
---

Couple things to note:
  • This ain't cheap! Note to self: "shoulda ordered the RS! You ordered Xenon in your S4 in 2001 and they were $1200 then if not more."
  • Been told by a guy who wires lots of camaros to go OEM.
  • Will let you all know the reply to my questions above.
  • Does not include Halos. I'll have to add later.

The halos are included. They are part of the internals of the headlight housing. They are not a separate part. Just make sure the ballast and bulb come with it.

If you get the hids you'll likely regret not getting them later. The hids are worth it a hundred percent

Then it would be a better car. Just like the ZL1 and GT 500. On the ZL1 all the coolers are standard, on the GT 500 it costs $2500.
