Forty5th's Build Journal

Well I have had my 2012 SS 45th Anniversary coupe since June and haven't really started to tinker it except recently in the past month I finally decided to add some tasteful or subtle additions. My current goal isn't to overly or significantly modify it either mechanically nor cosmetically but I do want to focus on adding or changing some key components and areas according to my preference.

All stock

__________

My very first performance-related mod was a black powder coated cold air intake from Cold Air Inductions. This C.A.I. unit is well engineered and of high quality. Throttle response is improved and it howls like a banshee at WOT.

__________

And then I ended up ordering and installing the factory tower brace. Granted the coupe variant is already quite stiff but this addition won't hurt at all. It also looks great and at home in this engine bay.

__________

This addition isn't a big deal but it does look much better than the stock valve stem caps. I installed a set of these Chevy bowtie caps all around.

__________

So I was able to score locally a like-new Flowmaster American Thunder catback exhaust set... installed and drove it for a few weeks. It sounded like a musclecar and had a deep aggressive rumble however the drone was quite annoying to my taste. So off it goes... but here's my startup & idle video of it before removal.

__________

My latest exterior addition is this custom 45th Anniversary Edition theme fender stripes. The grand sport hashes IMO looks good on the 5th gen and I wanted something similar yet unique thus a different variant. So I had my idea rendered and custom made... the results look great! Exact color match too!

__________

More to come... thanks for viewing!

I don't think so... so I beg to differ. I'm having lots of fun with my rides.

So back to my build before that childish interruption...

I received my Havoc rear diffuser from IVS a few days ago. I plan to have the outer portion painted in either gloss or satin black.
Or maybe in the factory Carbon Flash Metallic color... still thinking it over.
The inner portion of the diffuser will be hydrodipped in carbon fiber.

I expect the turnout to look similar to these examples... some of the cars that inspired my decision.

May I make a suggestion for the exhaust?...Corsa Cat Back--sport version. I simply love mine and the tips look so professional...sound is outstanding, no drone, but is there when you want it....worth every penny...Sumitt Racing--they will not be undersold!!...
Please check out my build for details and install. I am going to post a video of the car at idle, etc...
Your 45th is real nice. Love the Boss 302. Keep up the nice work and keep us posted.

Thanks for the compliments and the suggestion. I always hear positive feedback re: Corsa catbacks. I narrowed my choices down to a few other top brands as well. For sure, a quality set of catbacks is forthcoming.

Today I finally did one of the most simple (and popular) yet careful mod to do it right... blacked out bowties. I used metallic black vinyl to match with the stock carbon flash metallic color. Turned out nice.

I have a solo axle back and its very quiet inside. So far the only time I was annoyed by drone was when I was going about 95 on the interstate for a while. But i dont do that often so no biggie.

Also the SOLO exhaust kits have "J pipes" which allow you to tune the exhaust to get the drone out.

Yup I have heard/read lots of good first hand experience on the Solo Mach XL w/ J-pipes. Hardly any drone and what I also like are the 4.5" tips. This is my first choice. Thanks for the feedback.

You have some beautiful rides there!!! I like the metallic black on the bowties and the hash stripes. May have to steal some of these ideas!!! Keep up the good work!

Certainly, it's an honor! C5 members have inspired me on my design and I'd like to reciprocate to others as well.

Finally got rid of those stock DRL bulbs and replaced with a pair of P13 LEDs.
