bi-mode exhaust weirdness?

So, mebbe should not ask/complain, but....
my new zl-1 seems to always have exhaust dampers open. i thought they were supposed to be closed until rpms up to 3500 or so? i checked the F8 10 amp fuse, but it is good. would appreciate theories, suggestions. thanks.

Did you confirm they are open at idle and get out and actually eyeball up the outer pipes?

By the way, see this is your 2nd post. WELCOME to Camaro5!

Maker sure to go to the ZL1 section and post your VIN on BeckyD post.

Thanks. Yep, checked at idle and they're wide open. #3026, and yes, did add to list.

FYI...

The valve (loud) is open until 1000rpm...then closes...then opens back up @3000rpm. That is my observation...I am installing the mild to wild next week to keep it open at a times!!!!

Did u climb under the pipes to make sure the butterflies are freely moving by hand?

Are both butterflies behaving the same or is one open and one closed?

Before I pulled the fuse, mine were open at idle. They would close around 1000 and open up again around 3000.

Sounds like with two people, you could see if they are behaving as they should. Let us know and if they are not, we'll keep going down the diagnostic path. But let's confirm a problem first.

All....the butterflies behave the same. They move freely by hand (not stuck). As rpms increase from idle thru 2000, they don't close. Thanks to Scott and others who described how theirs function from idle thru 3K. I'll keep searching, but not really a problem, just not how I understood it to function.

Did you check to see if the vacuum lines got disconnected?

Correct function is that they are open at idle to 1,000rpm, then closed to about 3,000rpm when they open up again.

They won't close at all however if you are above 25% throttle.

If they are not closing at all though regardless of throttle amount then it could simply be a blown fuse, so try changing that first and see if there is any change

That sounds like the fun plan. I love my dual exhaust.

The car should be fairly quiet at speed if the valves are closing. It's a fairly quiet car at cruise speed unless you have a mild to wild mod or have pulled the fuse.
