I have attached some images of the GM/Hurst OE option shifter as well as the aftermarket Hurst shifter. Hope this clears up some of the confusion between both shifters. Also the installation PDF for the Hurst aftermarket shifter is available, just CLICK HERE

With all the banter back and forth I am still unsure about whether or not the factor shift knob can be used on the 40% reduction aftermarket Hurst shifter. Can anyone verify this? From the picks it doesn't look like it is possible given the shifter is a screw handle and the factory knob seems to be a press on?

Thanks gents...

If you look at the bottom pic in post #252 above, you will see that in the package there is a chrome "hurst" rod and in the upper right hand corner of the pkg there is a black round rod. That black rod is for the factory knob.

mtcwby is correct. The Hurst aftermarket shifter comes with 2 sticks. It includes a chrome stick with 3/8"-16 threads and a black slotted stick for the factory knob. Both will allow you to retain the factory shift boot.

i have a question though....it was said on other treads that you can install from inside the vehicle and that getting under the car was not required....why do the instructions say otherwise?

2SSRS, I see that you drive your car too! None of that looking at it in the garage crap. I have the same mileage on my car, these cars were made to drive, not to gather garage dust!!!!

you don't have to get rid of your factory shift knob, the Hurst comes with a rod that will still use the factory knob and you won't be able to tell it has the Hurst in it until you shift.

Here's something a little bit different, I think it looks great and is another option for those who do not want to run the white classic knob. I recently had a customer send me a couple of pics of his self installed Hurst shifter. It is shown with an optional black billet Hurst knob.

Click Here for link to knob

I like the white, gives the interior some contrast.

I like the knob too, but that thing will get HOT in the summertime! I have one similar to it on my 1993 Z-28.

i recieved mine from nick yesterday;installed it last night, but it was storming pretty bad,so i did'nt get to try it out in the real world till this afternoon. i love it,it's definitly different & will take some getting used to. my only advice is that if you like the "cushy" feel of the stock shifter; you probably won't like this shifter. i personnally like the way it makes you feel more connected to the car. just my .02, and no i did'nt take pics. sorry
