vent valve solenoid ???

car is a 2012 SS LS3 MN6 T3 with 5000 mi....went to leave work yesterday, check engine light came on...went straight to dealer, they said my vent valve solenoid was leaking...they replaced it under warranty..all is good so far...what is it and what does it do ?? thanks..jim.

Yep, like SC2150 said. Gas tank fumes are routed to the charcoal canister, then when the car senses proper running conditions it opens the valve to allow those fumes to be drawn in and burned via the intake manifold.

It is definitely great to hear that they covered this under warranty! What is the name of the dealership? I am sure they would love the praise on Camaro5!

your the the 6th person including myself that have had this issue pop up on this forum. Could be something for other members to keep an eye on.

all vehicles come with a federally mandated 8yr/80000 mile emission componet warranty,most people dont know this doesnt matter if your original owner or not,

The 8/80 is only for the Cats,PCM,ECM,TCM.

All other emissions components have a federal emission warranty of 2/24.

The bumper to bumper is 3/36, so actually the federal emission warranty is now meaningless. The evap sol. would fall under the 3/36 after the 2/24 expires.

....worked at a dealer for a while, had to memorize all that chit.

actually if you make your case all emission componets are covered,the key words are possible damage to converter,and since the only reason the check enigne light in obdII systems is supposed to illuminate is for emission failures that may damage the converter in the first place is to its an easy argument to make,but most manufactures have added so much other crap that the initial laws regarding OBDII get lost,its all about the envirement and less pollution,as funny as that is in the end

You're surprised that a minor issue with a 2012 would be covered by the factory warranty and that a dealership would be competent enough to fix it ????
Well....perhaps the second part might be surprising I suppose...

I agree!

And speaking of which.....

I had what I considered a VERY small scratch/crack on the face of my radio. When I showed it to the dealer, they said, "No problem, we'll replace it...covered!" And they did.

does anyone know the part number for the EVAP solenoid? I need to replace mine, and I would rather stay away from a dealership.

I don't know if you want to do that, you have to drop the sub frame and tank.

That make sense, our first yr 2010 cars are nightmares when it comes to vent valves, heater cores, oil pans etc.

I just replaced my EVAP solenoid (located on the passenger's side engine head) but the P0449 and P0455 are still being thrown up. I also have the Purge Valve. Is that the replacement process you were speaking of NFERNOSS? I also plan on buying a new gas cap, i'm going to go out on a limb and say that's what is throwing the P0455 code.

From what I have found out, the purge valve on my 1LT is on the Pass side engine block right above the valve cover and the Solenoid is on the cannister, I am running a P0449 code (Small Leak) and I have had a smoke test done, so I get a new cannister and solenoid here soon, and from what I was being told from the dealership is that they can drop the tank down far enough without touching the subframe, lets see!

I'm confused, why would you have to drop down the gas tank if both valve/solenoid are under the hood? Or am I reading something wrong?

Purge solenoid is under the hood. Vent solenoid is at the tank.

P0449 CEL came in a while back for me as well... hoping it's the easy replacement, not the hard one, LOL. What are the odds of getting a dealer to replace the solenoid in the tank with 3 years and 54k miles on the car? Slim to none I'd imagine :(

Engine light om - vent valve

2012 camaro 39,000 mi. Took to dealer where I bought new and they ran diagnostic cost $45 told me it was vent valve and would cost $315 and they would have to order part. Told them I would think about it and one hour later they called me and said they would charge me $91. If I had said yes right away I would have been paying $315 sounds strange to me.

GM has had major vent valve failures since OBD2 started lol... The seal gets weak when the vent valve shuts to seal during EVAP purge. The trucks had more problems with dirt/dust/water getting into them so GM made us re-route the vent valve fresh air side. Best way to check is with a scantool and smoke machine to see if there are any leaks. On the newer cars 2005+ the gas cap has to be perfect! Make sure your filler neck is clean and not marred up. Clean the gas cap seal and check for any cracks.

I had a slew (spelling?) evap, emissions codes. P0449 being one of them. Replaced the evap solenoid (front of the passenger's side head), all spark plugs and a fouled out O2 sensor. Cleared the codes and haven't had any problems since. This was roughly 8,000 miles ago.
