2LT RS Camaro vs STOCK MUSTANG, come on!

Help me out, guys. This kid at my school is trying to argue that his STOCK 2012 MUSTANG is cooler than my 2012 2LT RS Camaro. I drafted up a list of vitals and spec comparisons. Did I cover all the bases? PDF attached.

Camaro looks cooler and is the better car IMO, but the mustang is faster. (stock vs stock of course.) Nice PDF, you left out the Camaros drawbacks though, like weight, 1/4 time, price, etc. The Mustangs stats are more detailed, as if taken directly from fords website, while the Camaros specs look like you typed them yourself. He might not believe your write up because of this. (unless he looks on his smart phone lol)

Question, you quote 0-60 in 6.0 for the Camaro and 5.9 for the msuatng, but you state the Camaro beats the mustang?

How does one even begin to compile an arguement to prove coolness?

Is it cool your car is:
200lbs heavier,
likely slower (in stock form),
more expensive

or is his car less cool
because it has M6 transmission issues
wasnt featured in 3 totally rad, wicked awesome, amazo movies?

How do you measure cool these days? Would James Dean drive either of these cars?

Easy now, don't hate on the camaro on a camaro forum you mustang owner

Oh and OP, expect major biased posts from a camaro forum. I like both cars, the mustang is wayyy faster in stock forum, and both are good looking cars.

I like them both.. equally.... I have a camaro because the deal was too good to pass up. I would be happy with either car... I even hope to have a mustang some time.

The only cool car on the planet is the Volt, or maybe a Tesla, but nothing that burns gobs of gas making more carbon than 1000 Chinese coal fired powerplants.

Hmmm, this is like a cat & mouse game. Your debate with the kid in school may never end. My Mustang Boss 302 definitely oozes coolness... it's all stock. My Camaro SS 45th is cool and nice as well... has some minor mods. The cool factor is subjective. Most Camaro owners will be biased just like most Mustang owners will be biased. Park your cars side by side, and do a poll at your school. Post info placards if you two wish with head to head details. Unless there's a dead tie in the tally, one of you will be voted with the 'cooler' car over the other.

I recommend just growing up a bit and realizing the whole argument is pointless.

The Mustang is cheaper, easier to see out of, larger trunk, better fuel economy, faster, brakes better, and handles better. I can totally see how the Camaro is the better car

By the way, even with all of its drawbacks, the only thing that stopped me from buying a Camaro 2 years ago was the oversized shifter, goofy steering wheel, and the fact I wasn't able to fit in the car comfortably with my helmet on. Both are great cars. I'm glad the Camaro is back.

EDIT: Oh, and my pet peeve...when the Mustang guys that complain about the Camaro's visibility block out their rear 1/4 windows.

Only people with tunnel vision complain about the vis in the camaro. I have no blind spots in mine because I know how to turn my head and adjust my mirrors. And I've got enough room to fit a couple bodies in the Camaro's trunk.
The mustang is cheaper, more nimble, and faster. But the comfort was not there. The weird seat position, the harsh gear changes (I test drove an auto), the noise inside (louder ride), and the cheep feel of the interior did not leave me satisfied with the base mustang. Plus, I loved the way the Camaro looked compared to the other pony cars. As I said, the Camaro is the better car IMO, my opinion, not fact. AGAIN, my opinion. Just in case you didn't catch it the first few times.

Got it. I do agree with comfort. Much smoother ride in the Camaro even with the bigger wheels on it from the factory. That's the first thing I noticed as well. They took care of the two things that bugged me for 2012, which were the wheel and the shifter, however, for track days, the helmet clearance was still an issue for me.

The Mustang's interior is light years ahead of the Camaro. The Microsoft Sync is alot of fun. The LED screen on the 13 & 14's is neat. The Mustangs come with a wideband from the factory. The "My Color" is fun.

Camaro does have a smoother ride. It should, it has an IRS. But that's where alot of the weight of the car comes from.

Looks, "cool" etc is subjective. Performance is not. I'd take a 1LE over a Boss, but that's the only category I think the 5th gen wins.

Now these are cool cars.

What we have are nice modern cars, in either Camaro or Mustang form.

Mustang does have some extra fun "gadgets" that the Camaro doesn't. But as far as design, ever since the 2012 interior changes, I actually prefer the look of the Camaro interior over the Mustang, but I think both are nice.

without a doubt, ford mustang line up out performs the camaro line up. but personally i feel mustangs simply do not look as good. really the only mustang i think looks good out of factory is the GT500 with the upgraded rims.

Another thing i HATE about the mustang is how the rear is not wider, the camaro rear end is wider than front. The RS lights on the camaro are "cooler" if you ask me also. its nice how we pretty much have stock angel eyes or halos.

Between corvettes and the camaros chevy sports car just have a better style.
the LS3 is a great engine to mod also.

I think both the Mustang and Camaro in v6 base trims look plain, especially with the Camaro's steel wheels. They look ridiculous on such a big bodied car. Ford did better with the 13 since they have the HIDs as standard now, and the new LED tailights and color matched lower trim makes the car look much better than previous years, so in base trims now, the Mustangs I think look better. Even before that, they came with decent wheels. In the GT and SS trims, I think they look comparable. I prefer the look of the Mustang and like the look better over all, but I do agree the Camaro's rear fenders look very good due to the width. To each their own. I love the power band on the LS3, but I also love the Coyote, which is also easy to mod. Not as easy as the LS series, but the engine is less than 2 years old, I'm sure the aftermarket will pick up quite a bit.

Too big for the car? How big are you? I'm 6'2 and 240lbs and I fit much better in the Mustang than the Camaro.

well we all have our taste in cars. here is a few more thinks i do not like the mustang, let me know what you think.

few things ford needs to offer. first a option 20 inch rim for at least GT models. even my friend with a 5.0L says he wishes they came stock with 20 inch rims. 20s wouldn't take that much performance up either. I am not a big rim buy either. ford also needs to widen the stock tire sizes. its ridiculous, a 662HP gt500 comes with the same tire width of a 370z, and the nismo is even wider!.... while the Zl1 has 305s. the little stuff like that needs to change.

the little things like a option 4 gauge pack found in the camaros REALLY gives the interior a sporty and nice touch. Even a simple single PSI boost gauge isn't even found in the gt500 with a blower.

of course taking performance ford kicks ass! but its the little things that i feel chevy does better with. also the camaro is not prefect. i have problems with it too.

on a side note the 5.0L will never be as easily to mod over a LS engine- a single cam pushrod v8. but hey most people dont touch the engine anyways.

I love the 18s that come on the GT, and I think 19 inch is the perfect size for the Mustang. The 20 inch rims are too big for my taste. They do look great on the Camaro because of the overall design.

Completely agree here. A 235 series all season on the base and a 255 summer on the Brembo is too small for the car. The 285 rears on the Boss and the GT500 are a tad too small for my liking, and I don't like the fact that Ford decided to only run a 265 up front on those two. I know they are saying they want to maintain good steering feel and I think the head of SVT spewed out some BS about "all great handling supercars are not running over a 265 front" without mentioning the fact they are also mid engined with a much better F/R weight distribution. There have been no complaints about ZL1s steering feel and that thing is running 285s in the front. It's just an excuse so they don't have to do more suspension tuning. They are lazy and are riding out the current chassis as much as they can while saving money.

I never liked the placement of the gauge pack in the Camaro, but I agree, the Mustang needs better gauges, but not necessarily more of them. I hate the H and L without any kind of numerical indication. It's not good enough, especially when tracking the car. I think the 13s address this with the LCD gauge cluster. Also, the GT500 does have a boost gauge, it's inbetween the speedo and the tach. I wish the regular Mustang had the Boss 302LS gauge pod.

The Mustang look is old by now and the Camaro didn't win car design of the year for no reason. Camaro has the looks category quite convincingly imo, while the same is true in the Mustang's favors in terms of performance.
