I think these look great Doug! I would buy these in gloss black with the ZL1 widths/offsets... as long as they match the "concave-ness" of the ZL1 wheels. I'm excited! Wanted these wheels sooooo bad but didn't want to spend $$$$ to get OEM ones.

I'm sure someone could easily make a center cap, or at least a center cap decal. Here's what I've been working on:

It's actually a little similar to FR's redesign.

The problem with that exact design, the amount of metal near the hub. There is not enough to structurally support the wheel. The spokes become more narrow than the others near the hub.

You're kidding right? It's just a photochop-I'm not a wheel designer. The real people can figure out the logistics.

No I am not kidding, I know it's just a photoshop . No need to get bent out of shape...
I was just pointing out the fact that the amount of metal around the hub would need to be increased somehow, not saying your photoshop sucks and that you are a horrible person for doing it...

Let's think about this. IF they took this idea and ran with it, and modified it to be structurally sound, people in this forum would be all upset saying crap like "It looks nothing like the photoshop, why did you change it? blah blah " It has happened more times than I can remember...

I completely agree.

While I do like this photoshop of the ZL1 5 spoke (turned into a 10 spoke lol), I think we just want to keep our focus on this "SSX" ZL1 style wheel.

As I said before, I'd buy them as is if the concave is good, but if they made the minor tweak I mentioned before I think I'd like them even more.

It's basically back to the drawing board at this point. I'm hoping they'll take some input and keep updating their renderings. There's plenty of 10-spoke rims out there. I like my idea because it still has the spirit of a ZL1 but it's not the 5-spoke or 10-spoke design. Don't even bother calling it a ZL1 wheel anymore. What about like CL1-"C" for Camaro. C10, Z10, ZL10, or whatever.

I found a non-Chevy wheel, by accident, that looks somewhat similar to the 5-into-10-spoke wheel design. I'm just using these as an example for the wheel hub support. I would still move the lug holes inside each double spoke, like the design in my previous post.

I have seen similar wheels on Mercedes and Subarus etc. tat look a lot like the ZL1 wheel just different proportions, it's funny to see them. I have seen 4 slight variations of the same wheel.

Here is the mercedes wheel I have seen. not as edgy more rounded but same idea.

Some Altima wheel that look similar to the SSX

Would this be too similar as the other wheel? Trying to keep the 5 "triangles" look instead of the 5 "rectangles" in your new drawings.

Well who ever gets the 1st wheels out Factory Reproductions or LG will get my business as long as they come in ZL1 offsets and rim sizes. I am ready to replace my OEM polished ZL1 wheels.

FR Revised:

They swapped the direction so it wouldn't be too close to the GM version shown at the top.A change in finish does not warrant enough change. But size does from what I understand. 22" FTW!

Yes as I mentioned before, FR changed the part of the outer wheel that is raised as compared to stock...not just the part that is machine finished. I'm guessing that may be required so they don't infringe on GM's patent.

But if not, then I say go for it!

the focus of these newly designed wheels by FR is by the rectangle shape whereas the zl1 wheels draw its attention towards the triangle shape. these dont look like the zl1 wheels at all sadly.

Maybe if your interest lies in the two tones machined ones. that one looks pretty different. Otherwise they look pretty damn similar...I don't understand how someone could say they don't look anything like the ZL1 wheel. The main difference is the part of the outer circle that is raised and what isn't.

Anyways, I took a little time in Photoshop to improve on the crude image I put out there before. If you look, you can see the bottom spokes and left spokes have been altered a bit compared to the other 2 sets on the top and right. My opinion doesn't matter a lot in the grand scheme, but that would probably be my only change.

Yeah the two tone you can see the difference more, with this polished wheel it's hardly noticeable and still look good IMO.

OK, so take the ZL1 10-spoke wheel and instead of flaring out the spokes at the edge of the rim, make them straight like in the bottom picture.

I still like the bottom picture the best!

I can't begin to express how sick the triangular shape is in the wheel. If it doesn't have it...that's going to suck

Good idea, use the hub center area from the top wheel and make the outside look like the bottom, that would look great!
