So I am considering a dyno tune....

Other than losing my powertrain warranty, are there any dangers to this? Does it hurt the engine and/or transmission or make them more venerable to issues in the long run?

Along with the tune I will be doing ARH LT headers, ARH shorty cats, proted TB and a Corsa Cat-back.

TIA!

Other than loosing the powertrain warranty there are no drawbacks. It doesn't not affect long term durability whatsoever. It will not hurt anything. Go see Matt at FSP. He will take care of you and all of your cars needs!!

Matt is who will be doing the work if (actually when) I get it done.

I'm just a bit nervous because of the issues I had with my V6. I'm assuming the V8 is a much more reliable engine?

Gd deal. I've yet to hear of anyone having any issues with some bolt ons and a dyno tune. I wouldn't even think twice. I did my car at 7 miles. The rest of your car is still covered under warranty anyway.

V6 and V8 are two completely different animals. You'll be good to go.

What can you expect (realistically) after this tune of a V8?

Didn't see a CAI included in your mod list. Do you already have one? Let us know the results when you're done. I've been considering the same thing. Good Luck!

No other drawbacks as long as the tuner doesn't mess up. It's rare, but if he screws up and runs you too lean, the engine could pop. Like I said, really rare, but not impossible. The tuner would have to be either asleep at the wheel or a real newbe to screw up that bad though.

Matt believes I should see around 40 rwhp with the tune, headers, cats and exhaust.

I'd say closer to 40 at the wheels, but lets wait and see.

Actually he may have said 40 and 60 torque. Cannot remember for sure.

As long as the work is done by a reputable place that has a proved track record then you really have nothing to loose but the warranty. Also custom tunes from people like Ted from JRE is another great option.

I'd like to see that. Post before and after dyno runs.

Regardless... 40rwhp is no joke. Those mods were basically my original set up on my ls3. I did 370 stock and 412 after mods. It was like a night and day difference.

And with a tune its not just the HP numbers. The auto trans is changed dramatically with a tune, and other torque mgmt stuff, etc. So your car will be a lit faster, and feel a lot better in many respects, on top of the 40 hp increase

Something like that... The engine portion even on a stock car I see anywhere from 7-14rwhp/tq additional, set the fans to come on a bit earlier, keeps the car cooler, and usually see about 1-1.5 MPG increase.

If you have an automatic car, you will see DRASTIC gains in the transmission. It will no longer feel sloppy, loose, and limp. It will now command an easy, but firm shift faster.

On the automatic's, bone stock with just a flash tune we have seen 3-5 tenths at the track, huge difference just to give you a comparison.

I usually see about 40-45rwhp / 40rwtq out of these mods.. I have seen some as high as 50-60 before it just depends on if it is a strong baseline car or not. I've had bone stock cars in the mid 10's air/fuel as I've had others in the mid 12's.. Just depends on if that car wants to make a tuner look like a hero or not

I respectfully disagree. The other drawback is that while the warranty is in effect the car is worth less on a trade in and most likely on the open market. You would have to be a real slime to sell a tuned car to someone without telling them the power train warranty is voided. This will make a difference.

But if you plan to keep your car at least 5 years or 100,000 miles then no worries. You get a little more power and better drivability.
