Upgrading auto shift handle

I have searched the forum and found a few different shifters. But has anyone seen or done an old style horse shoe design? Like in older generations?
I'm interested to see what is out there..

It is to bad that these guys do not make a SHifter liuke that with a better looking piece instead of that ugly plastic dome. I would like something that looked more like the First Gen shifter that had a wood grain plate with the gears in the middle.

$699 for that horse shoe shifter with the core exchange.
Don't know that it's worth that

I spoke to Ivan@southwestspeed and suggested they come up with one that would have a billet aluminum handle and a gear indicator bezel. He said they would look into it. I think the 650 price range is rediculous and the cost should be more near the 400 mark. plus you could have the handle say camaro, SS, or LT as an option. If I had a way of making them I would do it myself, but don't so that won't happen. :(

The non descript shifter dome cover and handle issues could be easily resolved by having a vinyl shop make up one that has the gear selector locations and any model identifiers your heart desires...........even with woodgrain backdrops.

I like this idea and would love to see someone do it.

I spoke to him a couple of months ago about it. There are tons of shifters available online from the 70s camaros that could be adapted, just need someone with the technical know-how to get it done. Like the one below: The shifters sell for 159.00 new and have a plastic handle at the top (which I would change to billet aluminum) and then some one to make a new bezel.

I hadn't heard from him and haven't followed up either so maybe some emails from other members might spur him to get on it!

Anything, with in reason, can be done but to retro fit an early Camaro shifter doesn't make sense. They are entirely different physically and were designed for 2 spd auto's. I've thought about making one but the demand doesn't seem to be there at the price they would need to be sold at to make it worth while.
