i get this sometimes. there is always someone that will try to put you down because you are doing more than them. you could have a twin turbo with 600hp but you will still find a person that will say "well its still a v6". the hate factor with this car is crazy, i am the first military member on my base to have one, can just imagine what is being said behind my back.

Thumbs up

Unless they are a Camaro fanatic I don't tell them its a V6.When they ask, I respond "Now, what do you think?" Open the hood, and 99% of them staring at that huge plastic engine cover couldn't tell if it was a 6, 8 or 12 cylinder.
Start it up, point to the twin exhausts, they'll be blown away.
Best part is the only way anyone could tell besides the lack of the SS badges is the missing non-functional mail slot.
So actually the 6 was really the only model to buy! Saved me me some cash, and will be saving me some more every time I fill it up. And oh by the way, since only 20% of the first year Camaro's are V6's guess which ones will be the "rare" ones down the road, and the smart move when gas hits $4.00 a gallon again?!?
"I dunno guys.....300+ HP and great gas milage and the looks of an 8. I am reading this thread but cant imagine anything but a V6."
No way I would buy a V8 when the V6 is an all around best buy

A coworker was giving me crap about ordering the V6 as well. Said if you're going to drop 30+ grand on a car, you might as well go "all out" and buy completely top of the line.

My argument for that was it's going to be my daily driver so the gas mileage will be great as well as the lesser amount of insurance. If it wasn't my daily driver, I'd probably be getting a V8, though =P

Who cares. I have the V6 and I could give a rats ass what people think. Because when they say this or that I just look at there car and say well nice Camry buddy. The other day a guy wanted to race his Mustang that had alot of work done to it. I was like nope thats OK. I want people to see a masterpiece when I drive by. lol. Point is V6 or not it is an amazing CAR. Enjoy it for yourself and nobody else, except if you have family then share a little. I am enjoying mine. In fact I think I am going to go for a ride.

J/K....I totaly agree with you all. I'm getting an SS, but the 2LT is a hell a lot of "bang for your buck"!
Hey when they get mad that their skirts flew off, I'll just point at your Camaro.

That's funny, my wallet doesn't have imaginary additional funds in it to get a V8 but it sees the V6 just fine.

[QUOTE=Thrillz;582055] i grew up in the 80'sQUOTE]

The problem is that it's not the 80's anymore. And most every sedan out there is getting close to 300hp. My 08 Lil HHR SS is getting 260, if I drop the stage II turbo kit in it from GM performance parts (that doesn't void my warranty) it's rated at 300...that's a HHR! Same thing with the Cobalt. Here's some more 2009 Model examples:

Chevrolet Impala SS - 305hp
Toyota Camry - 268hp
Honda Accord - 271hp
Nissan Maxima - 291hp
Nissan Altima - 270hp
Mazda 3 Speed - 263hp
Mitsubishi Lancer Evo - 291
Hyundai Genesis - 300hp and an additional option to get 375hp V8! (a f***ing Hyundai)

Sorry but 300hp is just not what it was. In this day and age the 300hp arena in a car is just average....sorry.

You're apologizing for me getting a kick ass V6?
The 5th Gen is far from average, V8 or V6 my friend, in the over all package.

Historically, the flagship cars would have to fight one another. In this case, the Camaro SS should only be packing 300 hp. The Camaro is 100 hp past its competition. The V6 is running with the top of the competition. In other words, if these cars are the whipped cream and the lower trims are the shake, the Camaro V6 is the cherry on top, and the Camaro SS is the person eating the whole damned thing.

I do agree that the v6 is above average, class leading to be correct (overall, but the car has plenty of flaws) with it's peppy engine. But the v8 is worth the premium and the v6 will always be in it's shadow, and rightfully so.

What about the Monte SS when it was out V8 303HP, same as the Impala SS. Just saying that the V8 can be a joke too. Not the Camaro V8 not by any means. The mustang gt isn't that great. Just because it is a V8 does not mean that it will be fast. Hell there are 4 bangers out there that would beat the crap out of alot of cars. V6 or V8. Regardless there is always faster. Whatever you have under the hood.

I don't get this. You can always get a more powerful car. By your logic, don't you feel like you "settled" for a V8? You could get a V12 viper, right?

Some biologists recently did an interesting experiment. They would put two monkeys side-by-side in two cages. They would feed them a normal diet of monkey food, and both the monkeys were happy.

Then, one day, they would start feeding one of the monkeys a special treat -- like chocolate, or something sweet. The other monkey, who didn't get the treat, would see this. He'd get enraged, and fling his regular old monkey food out of the cage at the researchers.

Humans seem to be driven by the same desire: If somebody else has something better than you, you can't be happy with what you have. You're perfectly happy with what you have if everybody else has the same thing, but if someone else has something better than you, you can no longer be happy.

I guess we're just monkeys sometimes...

I ordered a 2LT / RS. I am pumped about soon owning a car with all that equipment and power for under $32K after TTL. If you have $40K to spend, and don't mind the added gas expense, I highly recommend the 2SS. I'll probably pick one up when I retire in 20 years!

No I don't feel that way. But if I would have gotten a run of the mill GT, then yes, I would have.

But I do agree with you that it's silly. But that's just the way it is.

Well I'm not sure how that makes sense either. We're not talking about something objective or material, like which car weighs more. The whole point of mentioning the monkey experiment is to point out that desire and satisfaction are all in your mind; you can choose to have one or the other depending on your outlook.

I'm perfectly happy getting the LT, and don't have any desire for the V8. Honestly, I have no idea what I'd use all that power for. I don't race, I just want a daily driver. A V8 would just be a waste of gas and money.

I readily admit that I settled for a 2LT with a v6. If money was no object for me, then sure, I'd get a 2SS with every option on it, then find someone who could tweak it for another 150+ HP just to be sure. For those with the funds to do it, I'm excited for you and would love to hear about it when you do it.
I live in reality, but it's a reality where I can get a 2LT and still afford the note on my wife's new suv and my mortgage without worrying about finances. I put 15k miles a year on a car. If gas goes to $4 and I'm getting mid-20's, it's not going to kill me. The insurance is cheaper. I won't be tempted to run a the ragged edge every chance I get - which would be tempting with 426 hp on tap. Honestly, it was an easy sell to go with a LT when my other options were family sedans. So, will it be a Ford Fusion, Nissan Altima or a measly V6 Camaro that'll run the 1/4 in low 14's and get the same mileage as the sedans? Hmm. I'll settle for stunning looks and performance that'll smoke 85% of what's on the road any day.

I mean where else can u get this much car with 305 hp and 29 mpg thats amazing imo. My drag racing days are long over and no way in hell im racing some ricer clown just to see who's the bigger man on the streets and take out some soccer mom in her mini van with her 3 kids. Load up a 2LT RS thats one hell of car for a daily driver.Correct me if im wrong but wasnt a lot of the muscle cars of the 60's early 70's under or close to 300 hp? My 99 grand am v6 is around 180ish hp and has tons of pick up to get around town and to pass on the highway. Anyone else getting these kind of statements from your v6 camaro as i sure am?
I test drove the V6 and it had good power! buy whatever makes youn happy and dont worrie what they say! there just ragging you cause there probably jeolouse. I did end up purchasing a V8 havent got chance to drive it yet. its been in shop since i bought it. there flying a rep in from gm having airbag sensor bad or something? But driving V6 satisfied me enough to buy one. I cant wait to get a chance to drive the V8 but if you do buy a V6 I think you will be happy!

Just for funny, the '69 Boss 302 and Z28 with 302 were rated at about 290HP. Yes, it was a differrent time and the ratings were different too.

I guess my point is, that todays V6 is like the small block motors of yesterday.
