Should i tune (chip) my camaro

hey everyone im trying to contemplate on if i should chip my car or not. its a 2010 l99. ive done a couple mods to it like long tube headers and CAI. It runs pretty good but i know i can get more out of her. also ive read that it will void my warranty if i chip it. any help on this subject will be appreciated. THANKS

I'm definitely not an expert on tuning. However, I've tuned 2 trucks and my camaro with hptuners. One thing I can say for certain is that the truck tunes I did had a lot more room for improvements than my camaro did. It seems the factory did a much better stock tune on the camaros (compared to the trucks). Since you have a few mods, there is definitely plenty of room for improvement. However, I think you will want a custom tune to get the most out of it.

Oh okay I thought a tune and a chip were the same. What are the differences between the two.

Is there even a "chip" for these cars? If there is, i wouldnt trust it. Dont mess around, get a real tune by a pro.

Since your an L99, a tune would do you good. Just the Trans tune alone can make the car feel like a whole new animal!
Since you have LT's and a CAI, you kinda need a tune to get the most of out your existing mods!

my biggest ? is will hurt my engine? I dont want to void my warranty and then something malfunction. In all seriousness whats the odds of something messing up on me? and a couple of people were saying if something goes wrong just put your factory tune back in it befor you go back to the dealer, but im pretty sure they can still check if there was a custom tune added.

tune= kiss your warranty good bye. and there is no tune the car. something goes wrong with it and tune it back to "stock" once a dealer flashes the ecu/bcm they will see its been tuned. i personally waited til i went over 36,000 miles on the car. but it REALLY does depend on your dealership! you can have a tune and they cant refuse warranty work on your headlight wiring harness lol

If you were worried about it, you'd have to wait till 5 yr/100k miles for your drivetrain warranty...your 36k mile warranty will not be void.

No. Doubt it. Installing a tune is the easy part...the actual tune is the part that can do damage if not done right.

Although some dealers are more 'mod-friendly' then others.

what if i bought a OEM stock ECU and just in case something went wrong with the one i tuned, i could install the new ECU and there would be no way they could tell it was tuned RIGHT? (does that make sense) would it be hard to install a new ECU

The ECU would not match your car's original and would show up as a replacement on a scan, if it even worked in the first place. The question has been asked before. Bottom line is it's not a viable alternative.

I find it kind of humorous to hear about tuning and warranty fears. You know, the best part about a warranty is never having to use it.

Well, yeah, a dealer shouldn't need to scan your car's computer if you go in with a power window issue, etc.

Just don't blow up the engine, please.

Jeremy, something tells me that motorcycle in your sig picture wouldn't be under a warranty any more, either... (Just do it. All the cool kids are.)

I have Custom tuned over 1300 Gen5 Camaros, NEVER once had anyones warranty voided.

You have exactly the same level of risk of warranty denial with Headers or cai as you do a tune.

Your Paint warranty is already voided

With SCT you can Revert to stock, any time
Your stock tune is stored on the device
You can read and clear codes
You can data log all sensors
You receive tunes via email.

Ask around about JRE Custom Tuning, the Reviews are nothing Short of Amazing.

Thank you all for your Support, this Communinty is the Best I have ever worked with in 27 Years in Business.

Ted.
