New To Photoshopping

I've never done a photoshop ever in my life, and I'm tired of asking "Oh, Dragoneye, could I get a Camaro with..." and instead, I want to just be able to make it myself without annoying anybody. I was wondering what photo-editing program is the best for a beginner like me. (I'd prefer If I didn't have to buy it, rather download it) I want to eventually be able to do stuff like this...

Yeah, I tried it and I didn't like it because it was too hard to figure out.

I just want to be able to get a picture of a Camaro, change the color of it, and slap stripes on there and change the color of those. That's it.

Photoshop 8.0 CS2 is what I use. I started with 6.0 way back when. You're best bet would be to try and find someone that can supply you with a copy of an older photoshop for little cost. I'm not an avid user of anything else and the best way for you to learn photoshop is to use photoshop. We just got CS3 here at work so I'm having fun learning about the new stuff. Not that I'll ever use it though.

I use Photoshop CS3 Pro. Its a good program, but older versions serve well.

My version of Photoshop is 6.0. I haven't come across anyone with a newer version so I could use their copy to update it.

And I find the inexpensive, more limited, programs much more difficult to use/understand than the more extensive Photoshop.

Go to Adobe.com and download any of the photoshop products, you can use them for free for 30 days I think. Then you'l either have to buy or ..... you decide.

At least that way you can try it and see if you like it.

I'm using Photoshop 5.0 LE (Which is the equivilant to Photoshop Elements of the Mid-90's) So......yeah, we're talking stone-age Photoshop, here I've used the newer versions (including CS3) but I've never felt the need to spend hundreds to upgrade a bunch of features I don't use. (yet)

If you're serious about using Photoshop, I reccommend getting the newest version of Photoshop Elements. It's relatively cheap (~$100), and will do everything you want it to. You can download a trial version to figure out if you like it here:
http://www.adobe.com/downloads/

There's a learning curve involved, because it doesn't tell you how to do everything. But if you play around with it for a while, I think within a month you'll feel like a pro.
