I all ready have contacted my clip and fastner guy to see if he could come up with something else.

Showstopper are you developing anything different to address the paint damage issues?

I think the best option would be adding some clear film to the lip before installing.

This has had me concerned so I lifted the black well protection just up a little and looked behind it. It doesn't appear (at least the best angle I could get) that the full underside of the fender is even painted. Hence the black plastic in the first place.

Correct. The back of the fenders just have a "e coat", not technically painted. I appreciate the feedback guys.

I had my fender well liner out last night and mine is completely painted. I plan to hit the scratched areas with some touch up paint then wrap the lip- front and rear- with clear film. I will then add the 3M stripping for adhesion and protection of the painted surfaces. Depending on the hold, I may forego the clips to avoid further damage to the paint.

Good to know. Is it hard to get the liner out?

No, about 10 screws and half a dozen push pin fasteners and it will fall right out. It was harder to get back in than out.

Was the wheel on or off?

Guess ill have to get the jack pad then.

This may be a stupid suggestion. But for the people who already did this, like me, couldn't we just drop the liner out, mask off the painted areas of the fender and spray some duplicolor over the scratch?

Not a fix for Showstopper by for those of us right now it's a good way to be sure?

I don't think it's possible with the wheel on. If it is, it would be really hard. I had my wheel off.

You could mask it and spray it if you have the color match. I have some body color touch up pens that I use for little chips and scratches just like this. Luckily, I haven't needed it much.

I have that too but since its in an area that you have to try and see may as well give it some extra oomph with a total sealant. Just a thought.

Do you use a torque wrench when you put the tire back on or just estimate the torque needed. I'm only asking because eventually I'll
be doing things to my car and will have to remove the wheels.

I use a torque wrench as a double check. I just have a basic click style one. Most of the time it doesn't move the lug at all after I tighten it but it gives me peace of mind.

Most likely it's from dirt and grime that gets in between, but it has me concerned for future rust problems now. They were very deep scratches.

I think I will be adding some double sided 3M strips to both side both for protection and attachment. The clips and screws work fine, but the barbs on the clips are also causing some scratches and after seeing what is happening in between the guard and fender, I think some extra precaution is necessary.

Please note, this is not a criticism of the product. I love the guards and think the look great and protect well. Just trying to provide some feedback.
I made mention of this several pages back. I used the clear 3m door edge gaurd on the front of the fender where the flap sits and on the back side where the barbs from the clips bite in. This will help in protecting the paint from blemishes.

I bought some 3M automotive double sided adhesive tape, I'm going to remove the guards and see how well it will hold the guards without the clips, I'm also going to sand the texture off of the area that lays against the paint.

I just installed a set
They look ok, but not really professional

Those clips don't hold so good, that's gonna vibrate and ruin the paint on the fender
I suspect double sided tape on the fender lip would help, but it would need to be black

I think 3M make a VHB tape in Black or Dark Gray possibly would work better than the clips. VHB double sided tape is very adhesive, will be very difficult to remove once installed. ShopStopper what are you thoughts about that method?

The torque spec is in the owners manual. There are 2 different torque specs depending on the color of the acorn of the lug. I think the specs are 110 and 140. I just can't remember which is which.
