Place holder wheels?

Anyone know a decent inexpensive wheel/tire combo that fits the ZL1?

I want to get my wheels powder coated but unfortunately the only place near me that does powder coating, they don't remove the tires/wheels at their shop. They would need me to bring just the wheels in.

So I would need something to mount the car on while I take the wheels in, then get the tires remounted and then the whole thing balanced.

I understand what you're trying to do.
I ended up buying a 2nd set of 5-spokes from another ZL1 owner
and getting them black powdercoated.

Then I had my dealer swap the original bright wheels with the
black powder coated wheels.

I will sell you my bright 5-spokes and you can do the same thing I did.

It may not be the cheapest/easiest solution for you.

I appreciate the gesture but I can't afford to buy OEM wheels for that....but honestly, thanks for offering!

Go to ebay and search "ZL1 Wheels" the ZL1 replicas or cheap (7-800.00) and kinda neat, I just ordered a set of black with silver accents in 22" just to play aroun with, keeping my stocks for track days.

G-oil guy, I se you are in PA like me. Have you considered a set of SS wheels with a set of all season tires for the winter. I got a set of SS wheels for $400 and paid about $900 for a set of General G-max all season for the winter.

Where did you get them?

I'm not looking to drive the Z in winter, I'm just looking for something to hold the Z up while I get the ZL1 wheels powder coated.

Hell, I've been trolling the for sale board looking for maybe 1 or 2 for sale. I was thinking of even trying to find 2 bare bones steelies from base model to just throw on the car and I'll take the wheels in one or two at a time.

thanks though!

I got them on Craig's List used but in great shape. Unfortunately the Z is my daily driver so I have to have a winter set. Good luck in your search.

Why can't you just use jackstands?

I'm wary of leaving the car on jack stands for extended periods of time. I also only have 2 stands that I have long since forgotten their rating.

It's obviously your deal but 4 good jackstands would be a lot cheaper than buying a set of spare wheels and tires. They are a decent investment and you'd have them for future usage.

I think it would be cheaper just to get a new set of stands and maybe a floor jack to go with them. You can leave the car on stands for extended periods of time with no issues.

I put my cars on stands every winter to take the weight off the supension and tires. Go to your local hardware store and pick up some thick pieces of rubber so the stands don't scratch your frame. Also put one on the floor jack. The steel wheels you mentioned probably won't clear your brakes.

The K.I.S.S. principle works best every time..................four new jackstands and a floorjack. You'll have enough money left for a 70" HDTV to occupy yourself whilst waiting for the powder coated wheels to return.

Cheers - Boyd

............and 4 jackstands and 1 low profile jack all for the price of less than the cost of a wheel and tire.
