Footwell LEDS ??

So i've looked over the dozens of diy threads about diy footwell setups. But.. I'm curious to know if there is a way to wire them up to the dim switch on the left side of the steering wheel? If so, how? Car year is 2011 if it makes any difference.

Are you talking about wiring them up to the gauge backlight dimming switch?

If so, sure! Tap the yellow wire in the four-pack gauge harness. We have a PnP harness, if you don't want to tap.

Yes I did it on mine.

This is the thread I used to install the foot well lighting http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=54183, but I only used the part that told me where to connect the wire so that my interior lights would come on/off with either the door opening and the light switch. I used two 1156 with 18 SMD in a cool white from AAC for my front lighting.

Connect your wire-splice to the gray wire above the gas pedal. It is the first connector above the gas pedal. There are two gray wires, and if you use a 12 VDC light tester you will find the right one. K9 is the BCM and X7 is the connector that has the dome light wire. K9 is just above the accelerator pedal and has 7 color-coded connectors on it. X7 is grey in color and so is the wire in position 1 (our target). I attached a t-tap for this connection.

This

I do not have a 4 pack guage. I just wanted to have the option of dimming them. If not i'll just tap into the cigarette lighter.

Hi. Just to clarify something, the four pack harness, you're referring to is the harness located beneath the steering wheel area? I'm thinking of doing the footwells, and am lost.

I would like to see some pics of this installed. We are doing all green leds. I already did the map light trunk light and license plate bulbs. I would really like to do some greens in the foot well also along wit the door sill plates. I just can't justify spend 200.oo plus shipping on door sills. I wish there was a DID for that. That would be awesome !

How would this tap work with a aftermarket harness used for a 4 pack gauges? Same way?

The tap is for people that want the footwells to come on with the dome lamp. Connecting at the 4-pack is if you want them on with the dash lighting.

as an alternative to tapping, I used the LP module for my dash ABL to control my strip light module.
The footwells come on when doors are open, then off when doors are closed unless its dark enough to maintain ABL. They are dimmable by the dash dimmer as well.

Kind of a funky way of doing it but easy enough if you have the NightOwls installed. And several Million colors to choose from .
