converting 2SS to 1LE - yes I searched first

I have searched but can't find a comprehensive, "this is what you need to convert your SS to a 1LE.

does anyone have that info?

I have a 2011 2SS.

Thanks

I don't think anyone has done it yet. How far do you want to go? Just suspension and gear pieces, or transmission and fuel pump too. Lots more to be added if you're going full on 1LE.

I guess the whole way with either GM OEM parts, or duplicating the 1LE with aftermarket and GM parts.

I am already targeting the wheels, the front splitter, ZL1 side rockers and spolier. I have upgraded bushings already and might try to get similar/better handling from Pfadt/Pedders products. I am interested in the gears and possibly transmission and???

Are you aware of the 2013 Chevrolet performance catalog? Listed within are the 1LE 3.91 gear kit (22813040) and 1LE track pack (231023311). Of course, as pyrolysis mentioned, so many more components are needed to make a 1LE. Good luck with your build.

I can't find it at the moment, but someone posted the "conversion" price. Let's say it's not cheap...and not cost effective.

Mods are always a money loss anyway, but as long as you enjoy it, that's all that matters.

When you consider the lost value of selling a 2-3 year old model for a new one you're looking at a loss of about 8-10k. So at that point it starts to make more sense if you can do all the labor. Its more for people who want to keep their car and have a history with it versus a financial benefit as you'd still lose money. Plus even if I got a 1LE I'd want to replace the shocks, sways, wheels, brakes, bushings and a bunch of other stuff as would most who become hardcore track junkies. Biggest expense is the transmission at 3.5k then the wheels at 3k. Might as well get forged wheel for 4-5k that are 5-8lbs lighter. And for the price of the tranny you could take the SS one and put in the same gear set, carbon syncros, etc etc. You could end up with something better but it'll cost you as I'm finding out since thats basically what I'm doing.

Plus they don't make them in green so screw that.

Wouldn't it just be cheaper to go 1LE SS all the way

I think everyone is saying that. But if you're truly hardcore then you'll likely replace most of what comes with the 1LE too. If thats the case then the financial benefit starts going away depending on how far off the deep end you go. But thats probably .0005% of the people who buy a camaro. My only big regret is upgrading my sway bars before the redesign happened.

I would have gotten it if it were available when I bought. But trading in every couple years for the newest fastest thing is a good way to go broke with nothing to show for it. Trade in and get the 1LE now and then the 6th gen comes out and trade for that and then the 6th gen 1LE comes out and trade for that... It's a vicious cycle.

Thanks guys - lots of info. What I am really trying to do is duplicate the performance of the 1LE with some of the look by using a mixture of OEM and aftermarket parts. I have a MGW short shifter, Pedders bushings, OEM wheels coming...

I will probably go pfadt/pedders to get the same or better handling, get the OEM gears and decide what to do with my MG vs the OEM 1LE M6. I am getting some ZL1/1LE exterior stuff and some aftermarket stuff as well (not a fan of the murder hood), not sure about the axles, hubs, bearing etc. as am only just getting into track training.

Damn, I have already sunk almost $10K in mods into this beast as it is and still want to do a whipple + necc upgrades and possibly a smooth blower cam.

Destination: The $80k SS, LMAO

That's the other benefit. Piecemeal is way easier to hide the total price from the wife. But its totally worth it to spank a Porsche at the track and laugh at their confused expressions as the American tank flies past them.

I believe this is missing a few things. For the OP for $3,500 its cheaper to buy an outright 1LE. Good luck with your build, keep us updated with pics and let us know the progress!...

don't do it! I'm at 10 grand and nowhere near close. I still need sways and goodyears, 3.91 gears, the shifter assembly and the steering wheel.

Not all my mods are 1LE mods...there's other stuff in there....I'm just saying as an example. The $3500 from GM IS A STEAL!

I would rather build a car similar to Doc's Blue Angel. That is one serious car! Under 3700 lbs I think? And has 460+ hp at the wheels? Not sure on exact number but the 1LE would have to have trouble with his car on the same track.
