What do you guys think of this cam?

Texas S&P 231/236 LS3 camshaft w/ pushrod and springs to go with it. I'm looking for a good balance in low and high end power while keeping the car somewhat street friendly.

Do you guys think that cam will do the trick or are you thinking a different size?

Mods I have done so far are long tube headers, Roto-Fab induction, SLP LMII exhaust and tune.

I had the exact same setup as you have now except I had a LMR intake. My car made 480 rwhp with a fairly aggressive tune.

The night fury cam kit is showing to be around 500rwhp... I'm not gonna say it can't happen but its damn near impossible without heads. I've talked to many speed shops and all have said the factory heads are as good as you can get but they wont make 500 rwhp.

I talked to Texas Speed before I put in that cam and asked what kinda hp I would be looking at and they said with a good tune it should make between 460 and 480 depending on the other bolt ons... so they were dead on.

welp Ive seen a few 500hp Night Fury cammed cars with stock heads.

there are dyno sheets all over this forum to back that up as well.

Proof..

my advise is not to go with one that people use for max effort build. Do not look at the cams that all people talk about is how much it gains.

personally i ended up with a cam that a lot less aggressive than the night fury. but doesnt hold the gains candle. but i have not been the type to try to squeeze every bit of power out of my motor.

Youre going to lose bottom end with that cam. I have the Night Fury and accelerating in 6th gear isnt going to happen. If you want low end and top end, look up Alvin and PCnNC. He has a really nice cam that with ported heads hit 500whp exactly. I have been contemplating selling the car, but if I keep it, thats the cam Im going to swap too. If you want to stay TSP, look at their 225/230. With heads, you can get 480+. It all depends on your goals and how much driveability you feel you can afford to lose.

looks like at 2.5k rpm it pulls like a freight train and continues all the way to 6k.
don't see how you call that loosing bottom end.. that is right in the usable RPM range.

They reworded their paragraph from the last time I looked. Assumed since it was close to the same specs as the Night Fury, it would prolly lose the same amount of torque. My bad.

I have to keep my car somewhat street friendly. By that I mean I don't mind pushing for a little extra power when considering different cams but I don't want to go overboard.

A nice mix of low and high power would be a great addition to the car. Heads are a year down the road for me.

Like I said, it all depends on how much driveablity youre willing to lose. That cam will buck around 1700rpm and below. Its the nature of a cam. A good tuner will take out some of the violence of it, but it will never go away. I thought I could handle a big cam, but if I did it over again, Id definitely go smaller. I dont drive my car hard at all so its complete overkill for me. Cams like that shift the power up in the power band. If youre car is a daily that rarely gets redlined, Id go smaller. Just my $.02.

I usually get weird real late at night on the country roads when it's just me out there. I don't mind some bucking though, it can be fun.

I had a DD 5.0 that had a wild cam in it. and they had alot less torque to help back then. you get used to the bucking and having to keep it higher reved..

but the issue then becomes.... you will NOT be able to keep your foot out of it.. it is like crack.
say goodbye to 17mpg lol..

Ya, Im at 14mpg. I drive 30 miles into Austin, which the car averages about 25 on the highway, but in town and at idle, the MPG suffers drastically. Im a touch under 500rwhp, and I only get into it MAYBE once a month. You can watch the gas gauge move when youre WOT!
