Short tube header install

I saw a video a while back on installing long tubes but is disconnecting the steering shaft really necessary for short tube install?

Alright, thanks man. The video I saw they removed all kinds of stuff. Then looking at my cars engine bay, it seems there's plenty of room to do stuff.

I think ARH recommends removing it...I installed OBX headers and didn't have to remove it.

I hear ya. Only thing that sucks is ill be doing the install, if I buy them, on jack stands. I gotta wait till i can find an oil reservoir for my two post frame lift. So I can't use it till I find one

Ebaugh1990, If you go with ARH shorties you don't have to remove the steering shaft but you do have to raise the engine on the drivers side to slide the header in from the top. There's only one bolt holding the mount underneath and it's very easy to access. The reason this is the case is because we did everything in our power to design the headers as close to equal length as possible. Most shorties have at least one tube on each side that hardly has any length. Our shortest tube is 7-1/2". Then we added a merge style collector with a scavenger spike and you now have a shorty so unique it was awarded a patent. PM me a phone number and I'll call with more information if you're interested. Thanks

Nick

I just did this install a couple of weeks ago , and I tried for an hour to work past the steering shaft but couldn't. Needless to say I ended up moving the shaft , which is really not hard at all. It only requires removal of 1 nut and bolt and pushing up on the steering shaft. Wished I had done it prior to the install.

Had to disconnect the steering shaft with my DT shorties. Not a big deal. I did mine with solo hf cats, on jack stands, by myself. First time on a gen 5, took me six hours. Could definitely improve that time if I had to do it again!

Thanks for the info guys. I guess I was afraid of screwing something up by undoing the steering shaft.

Lol , I know the feeling, but after I moved the steering shaft the header slipped right in. To make it even easier u might want to remove the spark plugs. If you bang one of those u could damage it.

Yup, shorties are the same, up from below. X2 on taking the plugs out, sucks when they break. Don't have to ask why I know!
