LFX vs 04' Neon SRT4

so A buddy at work just bought an srt4, he kept saying how fast he was blah blah, I am not big on racing so kept blowing him off but he finally got on my nerves enough I agreed to see what happens. so we decided to settle it today, went to a friend of his property not sure of distance of the road, but started from a stop and got to about 70. I got him by about a car and a half, he claims he had a horrible launch and that he would have beat me if it had been decent... question is should I agree to try again, or walk away with my head held high on a 'W'. both cars bone stock, both drives quite amateur

Your car will win every time. even if you miss shift and crash into a tree, you'll still win. My brother had a neon, not a fast car. The SRT4's are not fast unless they are modded.

Be careful though. They are roll monsters. I beat a stock one when I had my stage two cobalt. They are pretty quick with the right driver.

DOnt kid yourself about the SRT4. Now I dont want to start a holy war....that part of my life is over. But stock those things move. By this time that thing has a worn turbo, shitloads of boost leaks, and probably electrical and boost control issues. And its hard as hel to find one of those that has not been modded or tampered with in some way. You really has to keep up on the SRT forums to keep that car going strong. Most kids today that get their hans on those are getting a worn out, modded but returned back to stock type car. It would be lie saying you found an 88 turbo eclipse that was never modded. with a simple wastegate spring mod those things would put down some big cars. THe launch he is not kidding about, FWD and any powere and torque sucks. Next time go from a roll at about 40, and if his car is right, well, just see. Could be disappointing. But hey, I grew outta that shit, mine was about 325 at the wheels when I got rid of it. Fast as hell but what a piece of shit. Dodge build quality FTL.....

+1 Same thing trying to find an older model Evo/STI/WRX, all beat to hell.

Be careful though, it doesn't take too many mods on an SRT4 to crack our V6.

coming from a FWD turbo cobalt.....they suck at red lights or from a stop. I dont know about the skittles(old school nickname for SRT4s from forums from 10 yrs ago) but the Turbo Cobalts had a boost limiter to 5PSI in 1st gear. You would just spin the front wheels and have stupid torque steer. From a 40 mph 2nd gear drop (roll race) it might be a lot closer or go the other way.

A stock 04+ SRT4 is a high 13's car at over a 100mph in the right hands with a well running car so I think the OP beat the driver or a worn out car. With bolt ons they have been known to produce over 400WHP. Even so its still just a Neon.

Having owned an 05 SRT4 I can tell you they are not slow, I remember early 2000's Mustang GT's getting left behind by my stock SRT. They couldn't launch to save their life but still were able to hit 60 in about 5.3-5.6 which isn't slow. Mine ran like a champ from day 1, loved that car except for the horrible wheel hop in first, 2nd and 3rd sometimes. Handles like it's on rails and when I babied it got over 34mpg in city driving. Only problem I had was the boost guage went out and then I got interrogated by the dealership like I was some 16 year old kid that fiddled with the boost. Overall my 09 Cobalt SS was an improved version of the SRT4 but with so many build quality and mechanical problems I couldn't trust it to get me home one day to the next and sold it. Kind of wishing i still had my SRT4, it was more fun to drive than my Z28 just didn't have the top end grunt the LS1 had. The only car I know of that came from the factory without a muffler, sounded awesome especially after I put on the borla, people would be at stoplights next to me telling me how awesome it sounded. Strictly rwd for me from here on, just sick of the wheel hop and not being able to get the power down on take off.

This, if he could drive and it was in good shape it IS the quicker car PERIOD. And I always love the "it's just a Neon" excuse, i guess if that is what it takes to make you feel better after losing to one, more power to ya

Never lost to any Neon regardless of mods or trim in any of my LSx powered cars so yes must have been more power to me. SRT4 vs a V6 Camaro is one thing. SRT4 modded or not vs my modded LSx cars is a whole other matter.

Those are strong words... I would be careful with them, someone may correct them for you someday, and then your little feelings may be hurt.

I would honestly just walk away with the W you got. Don't race from a roll or he will destroy you pretty badly. From a digg, the torque steer is terrible so him saying he had a bad launch, is completely believable.

You won't know until you do it. If you do lose, that just means its mod time. If you win, you can punch him in the face for all of the smack talk.

I owned an SRT-4 before I got my Camaro also. I'd keep your W also. They are very hard cars to get a good launch in.

Before I got my 2013 v6 I had a 2003 PT GT 4 speed with the boost turned up to about 23 pounds which maxed out the stock turbo and I turned 14.0 second quarter mile times all day long. an SRT4 i.e. skittles ride will nail you as long as the skittles is not beat to crap and has a decent driver. Take your W and move on. I would never underestimate a skittle since I saw them turn low 13's with only a few mods at the track.

Wow, I was thinking that this being a muscle car forum the skittle was gonna get flamed. And then here they come, the previous owners, (like myself), who owned one and well....you know. Glad to see the old srt4 owners coming out. Now for the fun part......If you were on the srtforums....what was your screen name? Cause if you know those forums and were on there back in the day you would die to know who i was.......LOL! Sorry OP if this hijacks you......

I also was a previous owner of an 05 SRT-4. It was a neat little car and a hell of a bargain at the $21,500 price new. The torque steer was nasty though.

I remember reading that one of there main flaws when they came out was the lack of a limited slip diff. The Mopar speed parts guys were quick to come out with them and the staged upgrades came out quickly too. I would be leary about messing with most of the turbo cars even in my stock SS. Turbo cars modd easy. You get a lot of bang for your modd bucks.

Found on Wiki: The production SRT-4 was introduced in 2003. At the time, the car was the second fastest stock production vehicle in the Dodge lineup, second only to the Viper.

Power: SAE 215 hp (160 kW) (2003 model)
SAE 230 hp (170 kW) (2004–2005 models)

In 2004, the SRT-4 received a power increase, with larger fuel injectors and a recalibrated engine computer. Manufacturer's specification when the SRT-4 was released was 230 hp (170 kW). However, several independent tests have produced results indicating 230-238 whp and 250-262 lb-ft that means the SRT-4 produces more power than the manufacturer claims. The flywheel power is estimated to be around 265-270 hp(194-198 kW) and around 285-300 lb-ft (386-406 Nm)

Torque: 245 lbft (332 Nm) @ 3200-4200 rpm (2003 model)
250 lbft (339 Nm) @ 2400-4400 rpm (2004–2005 models)

Curb weight2,900 lb (1,300 kg)

MikeSVX - After the first year of production, they added a LSD with equal length half shafts.

05SilverStreak - SRTForums name was ( and still is ) Stitch.
