I think the Joe Gibbs LS30, Amsoil z rod or Redline oil would be good to use. The thing I wouldnt like about the VR1 is having to change it every 500 miles. I think Wix is a good filter as well.

Why 500 miles?
I do use the Mobil 1 m1-206 filter.

I haven't been able to find 5W30 VR-1. As far as I can tell they only make 10W30 and 20W50?

Changing a cam didn't change your OEM rod/crank bearings or clearances...so I'd run the same oil you always ran.

As far as weight is concerned you are correct but mobil 1 sucks

They didn't change Mike, but the spring pressures have and that needs attention. Especially for the cam and lifters, and the rocker and valve tips respectively.

Well the non street legal racing oil is a 500 mile interval while the other is a 3k mile 3 month interval. Either way the oil change intervals have to be done more frequently than say a Joe Gibbs LS30, Aimsoil, or Red line full synthetic oil because of the detergent levels. At least that was the way I understood it. Because of our 8qt capasity I would rather not have to change the oil until every 3-6 months or 5k miles of NORMAL street use. From my understanding any VR1 would have to be changed more frequently than this.

I agree...I'd never put that horse piss in my engine. Castrol Syntec is perfectly fine for any heads/cam combo on a stock bottom end on the street.

The rocker and valve tip interface...that's a cooling issue, not a lubrication issue (that's actually what the oil is for in your bearings too, removing heat from the bearings so they can continue to do their jobs)...hydraulic lifters and some more spring pressure...perfectly fine with the same weight oil that GM told you to use.
