12 SS vs 12 5.0

I have a 12 Camaro ss with SLP axle back, intake, ARH with high flow cats, and x pipe, and a dyno tune by ECSC. My car Dynoed 429 rwh and 428 pound of torque. My boy has a 5.0 with headers, exhaust, H pipe, boss intake manifolds and a dyno tune. We went to the track few days ago, and my best run was 12.70 at 113.5 mph with a 2.11 60 ft. His best run was 11.8 at 121 mph with a 1.9 60 ft. I'm getting cams installed on Thursday, and hoping to gain about 50 to 60 rwh. Will I stand a chance once I get my cams ? He talks alot of shit.

Yes you will be in that ballpark, gonna need tires. I take it he did that pass on tires? If not thats a crazy fast pass and he can drive his but off! That 120MPH is suspect too for his mods, unless you guys are running in some perfect DA. Your car has ALOT left in it as it sits just in your 60ft. Keep practing your launch, 1.9 60s on your stock tires should get you in the 12.4 range even without the cam. What did he dyno at? Definitly you bud is a good driver, you better step it up but a big cam will even your cars out.

My car traps mid 116s with a very small cam and in 2000 DA, once I get a real exhaust on this thing and run in good weather I should be in the 118 or so range. Thats with a tiny cam, there are some very good cams out right now that will run alot harder then min. Good luck bud.

I think you might have a chance just the way you are set up right now...im assuming you have a ls3 ...you would just have to driver mod your car. ...with a cam you should get him for sure . I've raced 2 5.0 and when I only had intake and cat back I was able to beat them, bot 5.0 were m6...it wasn't by much but I did have to get out of the hole as good as street tires would allow...both the 5.0 I raced started pulling and catching like after 3rd, they have great top end and if you race one that hooks they would just get in front and would stay there..go out and race them let us know how it went...good luck

I can't believe those 5.0 respond that good to mods. That is very impressive. 120 mph trap is darn good if that's all he has.

ya im not a ford fan , but the 5.0 are just about as good of a track car as u can get without spending 50k. the camaro rear end makes it hard to launch.

His car currently dynoed at 426 rwh. He is def a nasty driver. He ran a 12.1 with just intake, exhaust, and a tune at 118 mph before he got more work done. He was able to cut a 1.9 60 ft on stock tires. I just wish I could cut a 60 ft that low on street tires. I'm hoping that with the cams I may be able to keep up with him off a roll atleast lol. Up til I master launching my car.

Lower the pressure in your rear tires to about 25 psi and raise pressure in your front tires to about 42 psi. Don't drop the clutch, just release quickly and roll into the throttle at the same time. If you the tires spinning hard (a little is good) then you are hitting the throttle too hard. If it bogs down you are not rolling into it fast enough.

Another thing that will make it a little more even is if you drop some weight (off the car). Take the rear seat back and bottom out as well as the passanger seat. Take the jack and anything else in the trunk out (except the inflater; you'll need that for the trip home). You have the power to cut 1.9 60' you just need the traction. If you are getting wheel hop, then get you some trailing arms and a bigger rear sway bar.

No.

50-60 hp maybe/should give you 5 mph .
I think you need more than just adding a cam .

The Mustang had the camS. You only have one. lol

Sorry, had to.

If he's really running those times and speeds then you are going to need more than just a cam.

To tell you the truth, with a 1.9 sec 60' I don't see how he's running that with his mods. I know the new 5.0 is fast but I'd bet big money that most cars with the same mods as he has wouldn't with an intake, exhaust and tune.

Cam, 18inch rear wheels and drag radials, trailing arms and driver mod will get you there. It needs to be a decent sized cam like maybe say a Night Fury cam but with the right cam, suspension, driver mod and tires you will beat him. Who ever said you have a chance at your current mod level is dreaming. The 5.0 is just nasty with the right tune. Bolt on car vs bolt on car is just not going to cut it. For 1 thing they have a SRA and ability to run a 15inch DR or slick. The car is also a good amount lighter. When tuned properly its like adding a small cam because of the changes they can make with valve events. Plenty of mid 11's full bolt on 5.0's with no interior weight reduction to back that claim up. Try to beat him without pulling any seats out. If your son wises up and puts a suspension under that thing with some 15inch slicks or drag radials and launches it well cutting a 1.6 60ft he will be in the mid 11's and that will be trouble for you even with a cam. I myself have thought about getting a Coyote Mustang auto and bolting on LT's, stall, gears, suspension, big and little wheels, and a tune. With that combo it would be a easy mid 11's car.

A cammed camaro with a set of tires is a mid 11 car, with the right cam and right driver though. Add drag wheel and tire package to that and you have a low 11 high 10 sec car with a good driver. Its already been done, Night Fury cam would be a great choice and throw on some 18s with a drag radial and your set man. Your driving will be the biggest factor after the cam swap! You should be able to cut 1.9 60s as of right now, so you already need practice! Your car is faster then your driving it.

My buddies 13 auto with 3.31's, tune, long tubes, converter and tires has done 11.60's at over 121. Full wt. too.

I agree. He's gotta be running at least injectors+E85 to get anything close to that. Seems awfully fast for just a basic tune/manifold/exhaust car with no tires.
