Can't even test drive

I have been looking at getting a camaro. All the dealers that had a camaro sitting out no one could test drive because they were already sold. No wonder dealers are getting cut. I may start looking at the challenger.

Thats kind of silly. I would not want someone driving my sold car. They are making them as fast as they can. It has been good for GM to have such a backlog of preorders, means folks want this car.

Check around on Cars.com and see if any dealers within a 100 miles or so have one and then call them to see if you can drive one.

Don't let processes keep you from getting in a Camaro.

Good things come to those that wait. Chally is a good tank but it's a sledghammer and Camaro is a battleaxe.

Go for the Axe!

Normally I would agree wholeheartedly... you're just going to have to take my word for this - you will not regret the way the Camaro drives and handles. I've owned BMW, Porsche a C6 and a G8 GT - No regrets on the Camaro.

There is a dealer in Frankfort that has a V6 that he will let you test drive. PM me if you want the info.

I'm a complete stranger but I'm thinking of buying a 1985 Z28... I'm not going to buy yours, but would you mind if I take yours for a spin?

What you don't want to let me drive it? D@MMIT GM, I'M BUYING A FORD!

Thats all fine but why would you have them sitting on the lot if they are not for sale? I am not going to buy something I can't drive first.

Where are they supposed to be sitting if the owners haven't had time to pick them up yet?

Edit: I sure don't want anyone driving around in my car after waiting this long. I ordered Dec 08

If they're sold maybe they're waiting ont the customer to be able to pick it up. Maybe it's waiting to be drop shipped. But I know if I found out the dealer let some Joe off the Street drive my car I'd be pissed.

1. because it attracts people to the dealer
2. it gets people excited
3. i ordered a v8 but only test drove a v6

dude you missed the boat. you showed up late to the party now all the beer is gone! You should have gone out when the 6000 dealer cars every one was bitching about hit the lots. I had no problem test driving one. Granted it was a 1LT but so what. I sat in a (presold) 2LT so I know I wanted the leather. Do I really "need" to drive an SS to know I want it? Hell no!

Search around. You will find a car to test drive. They are not ALL sold.

My car had to wait for me to pick it up and I sure didn't want my car to be the poster boy for someone who wanted to drive one. I waited almost 8 months so this guy can wait too.
Challengers and Mustangs in my town are sitting on the lot-unsold. Camaros get sold. Tell you anything ?

My job requires me to travel all the time and chances are when my car arrives, I will be out of the country. I have already told my dealer that no one is to drive my car while it sits. He replied "any respectable dealer would not allow that and I can assure you we will not allow it." Sounds to me like you are bashing a respectable dealer.

i agree i would be pissed if someone took my 2ss out for a test drive. you cant expect a dealer to honestly let you drive a car thats sold and spoken for thats just bad business. how would you feel if you ordered a car thats 40 grand and the dealer says oh some guy came in and test drove it.

I know I would not want my car test drove either. But I know if I bought a car I sure as hell would not the dealer let it set on the lot outside on a busy highway where people are stopping and leaning against it for a week when I spend that kind of money.

i agree i wouldnt want it out by a highway either and i know the dealer i ordered from all the sold cars have been in the back of the building away from sight and the only 2 out front have been cars that were ordered but backed out on. i am not disagreeing with you galler i know its hard to buy a car you never test drove. i sat in one the first time about a month ago and wondered if i had made a big mistake buying it cause i couldnt see sh$# out the window. i went back again 2 weeks ago and sat in one again and played with the seats and mirrors and my mind was put at more ease its going to take some getting used to but i feel much better about it.

I'm sure the dealers struggled with the idea of selling their showroom allocation for a high markup or keeping it available for people to see and test drive in hopes that they might order. I don't know what the right answer is but I would assume they would be more likely to generate orders (sales) by allowing people to test drive. I didn't need to drive one to know if I was going to order but I do know there are alot of people who will not buy unless they can drive. I also know people will buy/order impulsively and with no car to check out, no sale. I am not advocating letting someone drive a sold car but I am leaning towards they would be better off having one available at all times. Again, I'm sure this is a tough decision given the current sales environment.

Paint can be buffed and windex removes prints on windows. Nothing takes those miles off the car. And they've gotta keep the cars somewhere... Can't garage them all.

Visit another dealership or wait until there's unsold stock on the lot.

14,000 preorders, no test drive, now 21,000 ordered many without a test drive, take a leap of faith. Read the reviews, read the forums.... its all good
You will have to hold off or be lucky to find dealers with lot cars available to test drive. This is a new model and GM is building them as fast as they can, so leap of faith or patients for a lot car....

I don't agree with this at all. Your either ho hum on this car or just a little spoiled. Sorry for the assessment but please. To be that impatient on a brand new production car is pretty immature. Or like I said you are not as passionate as 99.9% of the people on here. And quite frankly if you stepped outside your comfort zone, there are some dealers that do have them on the lot to check out. Most because they are trying to get maximum profit but not all. If you were loving all over MY SS at the dealer I'd be looking for someone to light up. Just my passionate ass expressing my .02 worth. The dodge sounds perfect for you if you go that route. Good luck

Perhaps GM should send out a car to all dealerships (or dealerships who regularly sell a good number of vehicles) that is only for test driving when it's a new / revitalized model. One that dealerships simply are not allowed to sell since it'd be on loan from GM.

I believe dealerships are technically supposed to use an allocation for a test drive model, but it's pretty hard to hang onto it when there's someone that desperately wants to buy it =P

Well when you buy a car I am sure you will let them test drive your car until you can pick it up. I am in sales at a dealer and all I hear every minute when someone does not agree with something is "no wonder GM is in trouble" enough already. Everybody wants a Camaro what a great thing! They are starting to move in fact many of the guys on this site have theirs I love looking at all of the pictures from around the USA. Their are lots of dealer horror stories here but their are also some great dealer stories too. No one is going to post when they went in and took a test drive and enjoyed the car. By the way our showroom car just hit 300 miles...

Quit crying and order one. You will certainly be allowed to test drive your own car when it arrives. If you find that you hate the way it drives, don't sign the papers on it and walk away. Someone else will love it.

I see you are in Lansing. Shaheen Chevy sells them at MSRP up there, that is who I ordered mine from. Guess what, I couldn't test drive one since I'm in Houston.
