Shifter
1. I wonder if the shifter is bolted directly to the transmission or is it like the new mustang and bolted to the floorpan first with extra linkages?
(I never checked to see if a shelby500 has a 6speed without the remote mounted shifter used in a GT.) Looking at the shifter on the Camaro Concept, if the shift lever has to move through those giant gates, I hope that it is still a shifter lever that is connected directly into the top of the transmission. 2. Also, I wonder if the new camaro has a drive-by-wire electronic gas pedal? i don't know what is GM's new standard with this. sidenote: I also assume the camaro has 2 driveshafts. mustang does and many are replacing it with just one driveshaft. i assume camaro is 2-piece only so if you get hit in the back you won't do so much damage to the front half. |

If the Camaro is to be a 50/50 weight distributed car (which I believe it will be) the transmission will be mounted to the rear of the vehicle instead of being mounted directly to the engine. If such is the case, there will be linkages. If the tranny is mounted to the engine, there will probably be no linkages.

Modern RWD cars have pretty even weight distribution (about 55/45 seems common), mostly due to lighter motors and heavier bodies (for crash standards). |

IRS may help the weight distribution, right?

As for the shifter, it's mounted on extension arms on the VE G8/Commodore. There's not much reason to believe it'll be any different on the Camaro. |

I agree; I think it will have the tranny up front, behind the engine. Sure, the IRS will add some more weight over a solid axle set-up but I think it would be worth it. It seems to me that the shifter could very well be bolted directly to the tranny like the 4th Gen. The T56 is pretty long but I think the GTO's shifter is remote, so who really knows at this point.
As far as the TB, I'm pretty sure it will be electronic. I think it allows drivability to be increased since the computer can be programmed to control more parameters, kinda' like the fly-by-wire controls in jets. They can make the aircraft more unstable but handle better dynamically. I don't know if said that well... JMHO
