2013 ZL1 vs. 2004 Z06

So, brother has a 2004 Z06, I'll take delivery of my 2013 ZL1 in May.

Who wins at the 1/4 mile?

Who wins at Road Atlanta?

Very close race driver for driver traction for traction in the 1/4. I remember the 04 ZO6 doing 11.9 bone stock when GMHTP tested it. I think it would come down to driver in good weather. In hot weather my money would be on the ZO6. No idea about the road course.

Driver vs. Driver will be interesting, i'm 27, he'll be 25 this year (it's my brother) He's had more seat time in his Corvette and I'll have about two weeks to break in the ZL1 and get used to the car before I head down to Auburn, AL to visit him.

I don't get that link. Neither the 2004 Z06 or ZL1 coupe are listed. ..

From what I can gather the Z06 has a slightly better 0-60, the ZL1 has a slightly better 0-100 , while their stock 1/4 miles are quite the same from best to worst as far as magazine reviews go. I'm quite interested to find out.

It would be close I think with the edge going to the ZL1. My brother had one back in the day and I remember him getting 12.30's @ 116.xx when she was bone stock. It took him LT's, CAI, T-body, rockers, tune, and drag radials to break into the 11's at about 120mph.

Drivers race in the 1/4. The twistys I go zl1 all the way! Now way that vett is going to be able to exit a corner and put the power down like the zl1

At 3100lbs and a 295 rear I think you would be very surprised at how well the C5Z puts the power down. I would think the edge would go to the Z on a track.

I am sure it does well, but even with the hefty weight the ZL1 has proven to be a beast on the road course. The car has the best suspension GM has ever put out, better brakes trans and rear coolers... I find it hard to believe a c5 zo6 can go laps with a Zl1.

-Close race in 1/4 mile. Slight edge to Z06 if both of you drive perfectly.
-ZL1 wins on road course

The ZL1 is faster than the C5 Z06 on a road course, no doubt. Its even faster than a C6 Z06(wihtout the Z07 package, of course) at VIR.

Drivers race in a straight line.

Sorry bud, but it definitely is not faster around VIR then a Z06, even without the Z07 package. You're looking at completely different drivers, one being a mag rag, the other a professional driver (although he's a chassis engineer), 6 years apart. Same driver, same track, both cars, I guarantee you the Z06 comes out on top. Better power to weight, a lot lower weight in general, much better power band for track use, and larger contact patches, and excellent brakes. I think the C5 Z06 has a great chance against a ZL1 on the track.

My mother has an 04 Z06. They make about the same power as the SS stock, but are a lot lighter. The main problem with it, was keeping the rear end behind you. It is an extremely tail happy car. My father and I went autocrossing one time. My old FWD Subaru SVX has making better time on the auto-x because it was more controlled. Everytime my dad touched the throttle coming off a corner the tail would try to come around on him. I should add, he's the one with all the racing experience not me.

If your dad can't beat a FWD Subaru with a novice behind the wheel in a C5Z, I seriously have to question his racing experience.

What's your experience with high performance cars, this may help a bit, a ZL-1 is east to get out of control if your not expecting it.

2004 Z06 piloted by someone that can actually drive a manual will be a tough win or at very least will be very close.

I can't speak for the twisty tracks.

C6 corvette zo6 2:58.2

So I'm changing my guess to Drivers race in a straight line and ZL1 in the twisties! LOL.
WOW! When they tested the 1LE they said it would be under 3 min with a fresh set of tires. Ran a 301.5 with used up tires. I never thought a 1LE would be even close to a C6 Z06.

Flashback to 2002 I had an 88 GTI with a VR swap and a 100shot of nitrous.

I went 12.95 on regular street tires

I was racing a brand new Z06 with full exhaust and drag radials. He caught me at the line (i had a .005 light to his .3xx) and that Z went 12.58 on that pass.

Fast forward to last summer. Same track same lane only 10 years later - my brothers buddy bought a brand new ZL1 bone stock went 12.54.

Now this guy is an avid drag racer who has won his class in drag week the year he participated.

So with that said - i think the ZL1 is probably a touch faster.

The DA and track conditions could be so completly different for 10years apart. Same with driving skill.

Checks. That car responds stupid good to bolt one too. IMHO a 02-04 z06 is the best sports at value around.
