Exclamation anyone having this issue ? drivers door Damage from seat belt with pictures

I have had my Camaro 2SS now for almost 2 months (April 30th)
I am 5 11" and do not use the seat belt guide(My wife does)
I have started to notice several scratches on the door panel
at first I had no idea how it had happen I am really careful if a put anything in the back seat and could not image what had caused it
My wife and I talked about and could not figure it out

until we stopped and I released the belt
bang right into the door and as it retracts with the door shut it runs along the inside of the door until it finally retracts enough not to touch the door
I have about 6 7 inch scratches in the panel
now my wife's side or passengers side is perfect no problems but she is 5 4" and uses the guide
has anyone else noticed this same issue?
if not you may want to be careful
Richard

Yikes! I have had similar problems on other vehicles. But it was from releasing the seat belt and not catching it and it would slam against the drivers side window and ding the window tint...

That sucks. wonder how it would look to put some kind of film on the door there.
Something like screen protectors for touch scren phones

Well clean that up and then hold it in the future and don't let it hit that. Some armor all and a rag should get those buffed out or less noticeable.

It's comes with the turf of a sports coupe in terms of room. You have to be gentle if you want pristine interior later.

I did that when 92 probe came out. Ok please don't laugh at me.. yes I purchased a new one lol. Hey the vette was like 39 grand at the time and my credit was lame. You just have to hold the thing the body is sexy.. .it has a price. Angle of the body vs like a truck or sedan just different.

Thanks for the heads up. You may want to open your door a few inches before letting the belt retract!

You're 5'11" and you don't use the seat belt guide?

I'm about 6'1" and I use it .. I find it really uncomfortable without it.

I have a habit with seat belts...regardless of the car...

unbuckle...hold the belt out(away from body) and allow the buckle to fall to the stop..then release belt back...

it's a pain until it becomes a habit...then...well...its a habit...

Can't wear the belt without the seat strap either. I'm 5-11 and my neck gets a rash if I don't use the seat strap to hold the belt off my neck. Even with a button up shirt versus tee shirt the strap is on.

I do remove the belt from the strap once I exit the car to preserve the clean look and keep the belt from twisting.

Guess I'm pretty anal on seat belts, maybe it's an extreme case of OCD. I have a 5-point harness for my 1966 427 Cobra S/C roadster and every time I park, I pull the belts over the seat back, and across the seat and buckle all five of them up them so show off the harness and keep that clean look. Both driver and passenger are a must. Yes a fat Ego I know...

I would suspect a paint film (http://www.invisiblemask.com/search.html) would likely protect the door and may be an option, but with the plastic texture I don't think it would not stick too well. Just stop letting them retract on their own and you have it fixed.

Best of luck.
Kevin
