2010 V6 Camaro VS. 2007 Mustang V6

So my buddy has been talking shit about beating me in a race. He has an 07 Mustang V6 4.0, with an air box, shorty headers and an exhaust. I am running everything in my sig down the 1/4 mile at 14 sec. Does he have a chance and beating me?

Sure seems like 4.0 owners talk a lot of shit. Unless you screw up completely and fall asleep at the line, you should easily beat him.

You may be even off the line initially, but past that you should pull away pretty good.

Tell your buddy to supercharge his 4.0 and then he might stand a chance. I don't understand how people are still so damn ignorant in the day and age of Google and the intrawebz.

My buddy has a stock V6 Mustang around the same year and it feels very sluggish in comparison to my V6 Camaro. It's not a bad car, but I don't think they're as quick as our cars are.

From my understanding the newer V6 Mustangs are a lot better.

Fully bolt on 05-10 V6's are on a perfect day mid - high-14 cars at their peak. I mean absolute perfect conditions and all bolt ons. You shouldnt have any issues with it. Unless thats what you are running too.

New v6 on average will leave our V6 by 2-3 cars. Some of them have like 2.73 gears or something and those I'd say its more dead even.

The only redeeming quality of the old 4.0 V6s are that they can handle a lot of boost, thats just what I heard though.

Well driven full bolt on tuned 4.0 with some 4.10's manual will leave a lightly bolted on or stock automatic v6 Camaro.

yes....your implying that if all the stars line up correctly, and a full bolt on 4.0 with gears Mustang with a good driver does it perfecly....then yes it could be a close race or maybe a win for the mustang.

But this is a lightly modded 4.0 we are talking about here that shouldn't stand a chance unless the Camaro missed the launch or a gear or something.

Just take a look at these times pulled from a mustang site:

Only one of these is in the 13s, and its pretty higly modified. Most are mid to high 14s or 15s and still pretty modded.

For more evidence, check this thread where a fairly modded 4.0 owner is asking what his car will do. They are telling him high 14s or 15.

Putting a boat anchor under the hood would make that car faster than the 4.0

Thing is, you can put a supercharger or turbo on a 4.0 Mustang and easily run 12's and with a little extra work run well in the the 11's.... Seems the only way you do that on the 3.6 is to run N2O... The SC and Turbo 3.6 Camaros are more a 13 second car, or barely break into the 12, with the rare exception.

As for the OP, should be a good race.... and could easily come down to a drivers race, especially if they race heads up!

My 2005 V6:

Best was 12.8 @ 107 with a Vortech... That was full street trim...

My friend's naturally aspirated untuned 3.0 liter Accord went 12.9 @ 107 mph in negative DA at Atco raceway.

Here's one of his older runs on all seasons with 2.3 60 foot

Headers + a tune don't do much for V6s lets be honest here...

But yo that definitely surprised me! hes from that Y.O. crew? How much do those things weigh? I don't get how a 3.0L Accord can do that! lol

Ill agree to disagree on that one there are not very many FI v6 camaros out there I bet with more being out the Camaro is easily in the 12's just forced induction it's just common sense way more whp than the stang and better tires jut need good drivers. Both racing same time on same track the 3.6 will walk the 4.0. Not talking bad on the mustang just being a realist
