Finally got my xPel clear shield protection for my ZL1.

I was finally able to have my xPel clear shield protection applied to my ZL1 today. I normally have this treatment done as soon as I get any new car but this time I had to wait two weeks. (my install guy is very busy.) waiting these two weeks was very stressful on me because I'm always worried about getting rock chips on my car. Now the worrying goes away.

So here's a few pics of today's install. The following sections of my Z are now protected:

Complete front bumper
Headlights and DRLs
Side mirrors
Entire CF section of hood
Both side rocker panel areas including behind rear tires
Both rear quarter gill areas that are very prone to damage

Here's the plotter that's cutting all the many pieces that's used on the car.

I especially wanted to get the ECF part of the hood protected.

And here's the final product which cannot be seen. This of course is a great thing!

Very nice. Does that stuff come cut to fit or did you cut and trim?

The second picture shows the machine (aka a plotter) that cuts each piece. This alone saves the guys a ton of work by not having to hand cut each piece.

roughly $1K, but worth every penny considering I know my front end along with other parts of my Z will be well protected against possible rock damage.

His name is Dave and he does excellent work. He's probably not the cheapest guy around, but his work speaks for itself.

his website shows he uses 3M film but he actually only uses Xpel (at least for now) material.

Have you checked with window tint places?

The pictures of the install are really cool to see. Thanks for posting.

Thats the one I was looking at for the install from the Expel site. Good to get a reference. May have to make the drive down for it. Thanks.

Send a message via AIM to yellow69z28rs
Most high end Tint Shops all now use Plotters and have the capability of plotting and installing paint protection.

I had xpel film put on my car when I first bought it...at over $2k for the install it was not a cheap mod by any means but worth it as rock chips add up fast on these socal freeways. If I could do it over I'd have done the entire car...bird crap on the roof is no fun and I just got a tiny rock chip on my roof so now I need to vinyl stripe or wrap the roof to cover it (or just ignore it)

Is your insert the gray one? The 2013 manual says not to be waxed so is it ok to put xPel on? Car looks great.

I don't see how using the xPel film could or would damage the insert. it's basically like window tint.

The only insert that needs special care and cannot be waxed is the Flat Black insert that was available for the 2012 MY only.

The ECF and the painted Ashen gray inserts available for 2013 can and should be treated like regular paint, i.e. it should be waxed

As for the xPel - it looks awesome - too late for mine though - it's already covered in rock chips

Make sure you keep it waxed and the film will last longer.

It's more a matter of finding a good installer, than it is the product itself. It's hard to find a quality installer. I'm going through this very issue right now. I go back for a second visit on Friday to they can try to fix or redo the issues with the first attempt. What a let down and pain in the A$&.
