How hard to install rally stripes?

How hard is it to install the rally stripes? If I wanted to buy them aftermarket and install them myself, could the average person do it? What is involved?

thanks

I did it on my Miata a hand full of years ago. Not excessively hard but takes time. I would not have been happy with the result if it were on a new Camaro but on a beater auto-x Miata it was ok.

its not hard, but I would still suggest hiring a professional because it does take skills

I installed mine with the help of my son. Definately a 2 man task as you have to be careful and patient pulling the top plastic off slowly as the decal wants to lift as you do.
Working slowly and getting all bubbles out along with exact placement.
We finally just got the plastic off and went back and eyeballed it straight. The stripe decal around the big decal needs to be exact for placement. The rear spoiler has to come off.

the brand and style of stripes will be a factor.
I did mine but it WAS TUFF. I have a lot of auto experience incl paint (hobby level)
took me about 4 hours total (piece by piece nightly after work)
seriously think about having a pro do it if you dont live for a challenge
I had to prove to myself that I could!

It's harder than it looks, not like putting decals on a window.

The stripes can be very difficult to do perfectly. Two man job with experienced people. I would advise to have a professional installer do it for you.

Ok...but do we trust the guy in the dealership? I'm considering having a 3M certified installer do the install. Quote was $200 though vs free from dealer. Note: I'm installing the factory ordered CGM Bonnet with hockey stripes. I'm going 3M Scotchcal rally in silver.

I watched the guy do mine... Dealer paid him $150 and it took 1.5hrs. Wouldn't advise trying it yourself.

Not for the faint of heart. It takes a lot of patience and skill, not to mention experience. It is a one man job, but two men would help. Remember, if you screw it up it will cost you more than the cost of install for new pieces...plus the frustration. I am going to be doing these VERY SOON. But you are too far away for me to install for you. I will have Factory kits for around $250, using PREMIUM Vinyl (unlike most guys on Ebay). I will also be offering many colors, just ask.

I was tempted to do them myself. I'm glad I didn't. The small stripes (like blackout between the taillights) are straightforward, but the larger stripes are much more difficult. I watched a professional who knew what he was doing, and he was VERY careful, and the results were amazing. This is not the place to cheap out ... find the best and pay them.

My dealer does very few stripes, so they had the ford dealer do it sinse they do so many mustangs, they tried for three hours and screwed them up. Fortunately they had ordered a second set, they misplaced my 1st set. My son and I assisted a guy who does TransAm bird hoods. It was tough but turned out great. The spoiler has to come off, 4 bolts and a clip. The hood is the hard part, the trunk and spoiler were easy.

Are you on Long Island? I did not think that I wanted the stripes until I saw some IOM pics with stripes. I may want you to do cyber gray after I have the car. Does the $250 include labor?

Thanks!

I would say let a pro do it for you. Then you can learn if you really want to on a beater instead of a brand new car.

most dealers use a local graphic shop to do all their stripes / graphics. if you're unsure, just ask who they use and check out their previous work.. don't be afraid
