5.0 vs Camaro SS 1/4 mile race

FF to :34 seconds. Stock L99 with handheld tuner vs 5.0 on NT05R drag radials, muffler delete, cai, 3.73's manual.

Closer then you would think. Enjoy.

He ran 12.7 @ 111 mph in Mississippi bone stock on the tires it came with.

He still has timeslip with him.

You need to look around before you go saying 12.7 in stock 6-speed manual 5.0 is lousy driver.

The trap speed is lower because of his 3.73's, he has to shift into 5th before end of 1/4 mile at around 105. My friend's 3.31 auto 5.0 stock trapped 109 mph.

I'm not sure about the first run in that video, but in the second one, he most certainly hit 5th at the end of the run. It's a loud car and I know what a 5.0 sounds like, count the shifts, he hits 5th right before he goes through the traps(a couple seconds or so after the kid says "he chirped 4th"). You can't really tell with the first run because someone starts doing a burnout close to the camera right as the cars were going through the traps.

Watch that video again, that's an auto, listen to how smooth and early the shifts are. Not only do autos have completely different gear ratios in the box, they also have the crap ass 3.15s out back, not 3.73s. I have an auto 5.0 and I've been doing data logs lately locked in 3rd gear, it's absurdly tall. Red line is well over 110 mph in 3rd.

with a clean launch you will be right at the end of 4th gear with the 3.73's and right around 109-110. Shifting to 5th will lose a little time but gain some mph. They do not top out at 105 in 4th try again.

110 is right on the soft limiter in 4th with the 3.73's with the stock tune
im right on the limiter at 115 with the 3.31's in my car on the stock tune and stock tires. With the 18" Dr's and stock tune im shifting into 5th around 109-110

False.
He did that and it redlined and he trapped 104-105 mph. He is on these 05ish S197 GT wheels and Nitto NT05R, they are a little tall. That may be too blame.

I have ridden and driven his car, it goes to 105. Period.

Taller tires would give him more more MPH in 4th not lower it

You wouldn't think so but it's that way, when I took my 5.0 to the track the only semi clean pass I got I was at the 7000 rpms in 4th maybe 50-100' before the traps, I decided to ride out 4th instead of 5th. The 5.0's rev very quickly. My trap on that pass was 109.2

Have you driven a wrx Sti? You are in 5th gear by the end of the 1/4 mile in that too.

As for 3.73 gears. I currently own a 1995 mustang GT with 3.73 gears and a C4 THREE speed transmission that runs high 10s and traps 125 in the 1/4.!! 3.73 gears are not your non-driving friends problem. Keep posting your videos of mid 13 second runs of Camaro SS & Mustang GTs then explain why this is normal. Stick shift Mustang GTs out trap L99 Camaro SS. Your video is retarded as usual. You explaining why there normal is however priceless.
Okay you have 3 speed auto, cool. Also try and lighten up on the language.

Vids of your 10 second mustang? How many cars do you own? Oh and if you opened your eyes you would realize the mustang I posted ran 12.9 and the Camarillo ss ran 13.0 stock.

"This! End of story! No company on earth that builds a car that's world renown for drag racing is going to have you rowing thru the gears like a retard."

Don't change the subject there is one, its called the Sti. How you relate a close ratio 6 speed to 5 speed neon is beyond me.

Dude, are you serious?

My 4.10 Geared GT is over 100 MPH in 3rd gear with a 285/40/18 tire. I would barely redline 4th gear by the end of the track.

My 07 3.31 geared GT would just kick over 4th by the end of the track.

Your friend is either not driving the car properly, is not shifting at the highest/most efficient RPM and is short shifting each gear.

Hell, my 6 Speed Cobra with 3.55's would just hit 4th by the end of the 1/4 mile!

Here is something I pulled from another site that gives a logical breakdown.

max speed in 4th gear with 3.73's and 27.2" tires:
27.2" = 100.3mph @ 6100rpm
27.2" = 115.1mph @ 7000rpm
27.2" = 121.7mph @ 7400rpm

max speed in 4th gear with 3.73's and 27.7" tires:
27.7" = 102.1mph @ 6100rpm
27.7" = 117.2mph @ 7000rpm
27.7" = 123.9mph @ 7400rpm

max speed in 4th gear with 3.73's and 28.0" tires:
28.0" = 103.2mph @ 6100rpm
28.0" = 118.5mph @ 7000rpm
28.0" = 125.2mph @ 7400rpm

I agree.

Here is is trying to educate everyone. Sorry, but, I've owned 4 Mustangs, Raced all of them, still Race them, and the things he comes up with boggles my mind.

How are you liking the Camaro? Still miss your SRT man, that thing was a fricken bad azz mofo!

My friend ran 13.0 @ 107 stock with 2.0 60 foot in his l99, you were calling him a bad driver ?

He is stock with hypertech tuner. Can you not drive? In the real world you should have done 12's.

You bad mouth him for not being able to drive, then you run slower time with more mods at much better track. Nice.

He bounces off the limiter in 4th at about 10-20 feet before 1/4 mile marker, whether you agree or not I don't care. Just stating the facts, he ran 15 or so times that night so after 3 runs of bouncing off limiter in 4th and trapping 104-105, then he decided it was best to shift into 5th like he normally has. I don't care if you agree with the facts or what happened that night, you weren't there.

He has owned his car for 50,000 miles and has owned it almost 3 years. He saw some of the comments on here, made him laugh. He shifted into 5th doing the 12.7 @ 111 in Alabama too by the way.
