Front shock install question

I'm replacing the shocks on my 2013 2LT. The Haynes manual describes marking the relationship between the shock to the knuckle during removal. Is this to say the shock does not bottom out in the knuckle or there is no positive locating device?

The shock moves within the knuckle to adjust front camber (the top hole on the knuckle is slotted and has an eccentric bolt for camber adjustment. If you mark where it is before you take it apart, your camber will be roughly in the right spot after you swap. You still need to go and get an alignment done when finished.

Thanks, so I reckon with new shocks you'd want to maintain the dimension from the spring perch to the knuckle?

Are you replacing with stock shocks? If so there is no adjustments that can be made, other than the camber adjustment. Are you installing coilovers or lowering springs?
