The system is supposed to release the brakes when you step on the gas, but there's a slight delay, so you can either wait, or give the car too much power like the OP did, understandably. It's pretty annoying and, in my opinion, dangerous.

Someone (06_Warrior) said their 2012 doesn't have it, but that must be because it's an automatic or he/she encounters no hills. All the manuals have it, from 2010 onward.

436SS, it's hardly a matter of it hindering rookies. If anything, it probably helps them by preventing the car from rolling backward while they're trying to get going. Unfortunately it also prevents experienced drivers from moving forward.

Negative, ghost rider....lol...Hill Assist is a '13 and up feature added to manuals...For sure not on the 10-11-12....

No sir, mine doesnt have it. It has to be something on the newer models. As far as the "rookie" comment, I was just poking fun, no harm intended.

Yes, it is relatively new.

It answers a question that only newbie MT drivers and people who live in traffic-congested unusually hilly areas would ever even think to ask.

For the rest of us, it's something that has significant potential for getting in the way, either by causing unnecessary stalling - or as in the case of this thread's OP, the risk of getting stopped for driving the officer interprets as erratic or otherwise improper.

Based on my experience in my wife's manual-tranny Subaru which has a similar system, HSA feels exactly like a P-brake that's stuck and isn't releasing (that car has an electronic P-brake that is also slow to release, so I have a direct comparison here). If you're skilled enough to take off with minimal throttle and normally drive that way there's a very good chance that HSA will get it stalled for you.

HSA may be somewhat sensitive to individual car calibration, since some drivers have a lot more trouble with it than others. But that only explains why the opinions you read aren't completely unanimous and does not excuse the system's presence or its problematic behavior.

I'm glad I have a 2010. Hill assist? You've got to be kidding me. I don't know I'd even buy a car with that crap on it. Why in the world would they even put that on a Camaro? Either you know how to drive a stck or you don't.

What's with all this "assist" crap they put on cars now? I saw a commercial for a Ford that parallel parks itself. Whatever happened to learning how to drive? Come on people!

I think it should be selectable, that way inexperienced people can use it and experienced people can just turn it off. Everyone is happy then.

There's a new HSA thread every week, and I'm glad. GM needs to be aware of how much heartburn there is over this issue. I'm hoping that the fact you can't turn it off was just an oversight and they will fix it for all '13 M6 owners.

If it really bothered you that much, you could have asked the cop if he has any nude pix of his wife.

If he says yes, offer him a buck.

If he says no, ask him if he wants to buy some from you.

Yeah after a hard stop you gotta remember to let the clutch out in neutral to reset the HSA to a lower brake pressure.
