No stripes for Eleanor

For some time I have been looking at removing my stripes. One they are starting to fade. Two they say 304HP when its really 312HP. And lastly since my Camaro is a 2LT non-RS I added the rear wing after I got her and the their were no stripes on the wing and I did not want to spend the $$ on more vinyl knowing I was going to get painted stripes this summer.

So I removed the rear wing and pulled the rear stripes with no issues. The cleanup after pulling the stripes sucked. I pulled out the claybar and about an hour later had it all cleaned. Then removed the stripes from the front which was a pain, took around hours to heat and pull, and then clayed. Getting the sticky stuff off after pulling the stripes was the worst part.

Be ready for cleaning up if you do pull and use a hair dryer to heat up the vinyl as it does help.

I will post pics up later but I am really happy with the look for now, until this summer when I can get the stripes painted.

Mike

You just reaffirmed every reason why I didn't go with factory stripes....

I could only imagine how much work it would be after a few years of them being on the car. My next Camaro will only have painted stripes.

So when I clayed the hood I did it in the garage while dark outside so I had limited light in the garage. Opened the garage this morning with the sun shinning in and I still need to clay where the stripes were as I missed a small section. I also have a spot on the hood where the sticky residue still needs to be cleaned. Going to Church and then will pull the car out and finish.

Life lesson = No more vinyl stripes.....EVER!!!!!!

My car is 2 years old and my stripes look brand new (Cyber Gray Metallic Stripes). My car is also a daily driver that is parked outside M-F at work.

Eventually, I'm going to get stripes painted on. But for now, my stripes still look new.

Same thing here, mine look the same as the day I bought it. And mine sits outside in the Florida sun all day, because I don't have a garage. All I do to mine is wash and use detail spray on them every week...

I should state the stripes I had where not the GM stripes, the dealer added them before I bought the car. Maybe the GM stripes are better quality than the ones I had.

Why didn't you just use goo gone or something like to to remove the sticky residue? I think claying just seems to be the hard road here. When I had my stripes removed the gunk came off real easy with goo gone, I then just washed the surface and quickly applied some fresh wax by hand. Only took about 30 minutes to do the hood and roof.

Well I would hope so. I'm pretty sure 99.9999% of 5th Gen owners say the same thing after 3 months. The other guy probably screwed his up power washing them.

the factory vinyl should hold up for 5- 7 years if properly taken care of. wax it, keep it clean and be nice to it....
but def when the replacing time comes, painted is the way to go.
glad you got yours off ok for the most part. gotta love clay bars
