header install on an auto vs 6 spd ZL1 comments

I have had the opportunity to install headers on my own A6 ZL1 and Smitty's M6 2013 ZL1. I have not finished Smitty's car yet but wow...there is a bunch of room in an M6 car vs an A6. The rear 02 connectors are so easy to reach in the M6 as well. I'm just commenting on the relative ease of an M6 install vs an A6. If you have an M6 car and have some mechanical skill, don't be scared to tackle this one. A6 cars are not bad but some interferences may be present that do not exist on the M6 like the differential cooler lines that run on the driver's side tunnel which nearly blocked my front 02 sensor on the Texas speed headers.

Kooks were an easy install on my M6.
Note: Clearance on the steering knuckle is one concern I've seen mentioned but I forget what brand LT header that was for.

I disconnected my intermediate steering shaft to put my ARH LTs on. It's probably these.

Was that for a zl1 with the arh headers? Was thinking of doing the install of those myself. If there is going to be clearance issues with them I'll try and find something with less of an issue.

The steering universal joint has a dust boot that had to be removed on my car with the Texas Speed headers. I haven't checked the Stainless Power headers with Smitty's car yet to see if I have to cut that off. It's no biggie to cut off...just thin rubber and the belly pan protects that area from road grit.

steering u joint dust boot must be removed with Stainless Power also. Stainless Power connection pipes much easier to fit and overall better than Texas Speed. Spark plug clearance is worse with the Stainless Power as the socket drags on the thicker flange and makes the spark plug boot fit very close to the flange with the stock plug wires. Best bet is to get a set of MSD wires to get the best clearance. Overall I give Texas Speed an 8 out of 10 and Stainless Power 9.5 out of 10.
