Tune/Revert tune?

Just curious about tuning.

I know it voids warranty...

But what if you revert back to stock tune... Will it still be a "Tuned" machine? Or?

It won't be tuned anymore but they will be able to tell that it was reflashed and reverted back to stock, so you can't hide it.

How often do they check to see if something is flashed (If you know)

Is it something that that check super often?

If you are worried about voiding warranty, but dead set on tuning. Buy a replacement ECM from a third party, like a parts store or something, have the replacement tuned and uninstall the factory one and install the tuned one, then revert when going to dealer for warranty work.

IMO though, so what if we tune? If it's professionally tuned, how can we be at fault for a factory defect that has nothing to do with a tune?

ECM's are VIN-specific. Won't work.

So you can't buy a replacement ECM?

How about flashing the ECM 10-15 times before going for warranty work?

The OP has a V6 - so there's no flash counter. So as long as he goes back to the stock tune before going in for warranty work he'll be fine.

Is that true of the LFX's as well? They have a different ECM than the LLT's, I believe.

I was lead to believe that the LFX's have a flash counter of some type and that events are captured and are readable/noticeable. I would just play dumb and take it in to a service dept and see what they say.

It does not void the entire warranty, just the parts that are affected by tuning. Interpret that as you will.

Aka the whole power train.

But this isn't the thread to argue about tuning/voiding warranty.

And I don't know about the LFX ECM
